Help--gallbladder pain

Recommended Posts

I have been having classic symptoms of gallstones for the last couple of weeks. I saw my surgeon, who ordered an ultrasound and scheduled gall bladder removal for December 30. In the meantime, I'm taking zofran as needed for nausea (and I have some pain meds if it gets really bad). Any suggestions on what to eat that's might not upset things further? I feel so sick to my stomach that I'm not eating much of anything. Still drinking fluids, though.

No one knows the HELL that a Gallbladder will put you thru until they have it happen to them. IT HURTS!! I had mine out many years ago, after fighting it for 8 years. Good Luck I hope you get relief soon!! As for what to eat or not to eat, I know high fats will throw you for a loop as dairy did too. I would just try to be very careful with what you eat. Good Luck

I think I hit my goal weight faster because of my gallbladder, I didn't eat for a month until I finally went back to my surgeon and he told me I needed it removed immediately. But the appetite definitely does come back after it's removed and pain subsides. I'm so happy I had mine removed. That was rough. Best of luck to you, I definitely know what you're going through :(

I didn't mean to skip over your question! What I ate for the whole month of my gallbladder saga was mainly Soups. I had hot chicken Soup and Tomato Soup which actually made me feel better. I also had light hot air popcorn that I was able to eat but that's pretty much it. Again feel better and good luck!

When my gallbladder went, it took so long to get a diagnosis that all i could eat was cheerios and boiled potatoes......YUCK!

I had mine removed 20 years ago in an open surgery and was literally starving. It took almost 6 months of pain before they figured out that it was my gallbladder. At the time laparoscopic surgery was available but mine was so full of stones that they had to do the open surgery. Now a days....that would not have been the case and I think it would have been diagnosed much faster. it was also in the days with HMO.......ugh.

Please don't remove your gallbladder. I had the same symptoms. I started drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice every morning, 12 Oz. Water with one lemon squeezed, no sugar + I avoid fatty meat, like really fat meat and I didn't have an attack for over 18 months.

It has certainly boosted my weight loss the last few weeks, but it hasn't been good for my Couch 2 5k routine. I've been eating powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup, so I can get even close to my Protein goals. Carbs seem like they cause less pain, but of course I want to limit carbs. Zofran has been my friend as well.

Painter88, can you tell me why you recommend not having it removed? I actually drink a good bit of lemon juice generally because I form kidney stones and have had huge trouble with those in the past.

Sure...sharp, stabbing pains in the upper right abdomen (for me, very close to the bottom right of my rib cage). Nausea, some vomiting, some diarrhea. Pain also frequently radiates to the back, upper right shoulder blade area for me. Other symptoms (that I don't have) include jaundice and dark colored urine.

Ultrasound confirmed gallstones. Ugh. 7 days until it is out. Thank God for zofran and pain meds.

My Dr put me on a medication that's supposed to suppress getting gallstones cuz apparently it's common to get them with rapid weight loss so we're taking a pro active approach

Gallstone surgery today and all went well. Dr said there was one large gallstone causing all of this trouble. Glad to have it removed. I now have five additional incisions on my belly. The pain today has been fairly bad. The pain meds they gave me say to take one or two, and I've been taking two (unusual for me). I'm sure I will be feeling better in the next few days though. Terrible gas pain--I'm having rny flashbacks!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
