I was not......Clear liquids only and Protein shakes. Now, bariatric pal sells Protein hot cocoa that is made with Water. It is essentially a hot Protein shake and very good.

And....my liquid phase was Clear Liquids so in that case even the protein cocoa would NOT have been on plan.

Are you on Clear Liquids? Or the pre-op liquid plan. If you have any questions about your diet I would call your nutritionist or your surgeons office and ask.

Then you should be fine with sugar free.....however, i would not make it with Water, i would make it with milk and if you have it fairlife milk because it adds Protein.....

My instructions state, no caloric beverages unless they are Protein beverages.

Again, you might reach out to your surgeon but I would make those calories count by making it with protein.....fairlife is a great product for WLS patients and it tastes like normal milk.

Yes. That's one of the options that they offer in the hospital to prove you can handle full liquids.

Has it slowed down your progress? That's the only thing I'm worried about :/

They make light or sugar free varieties, I don't like artificial sweeteners so I buy the regular kind. I still use it in moderation (1 packet a day limit, and I don't have it every day just days where I'm super craving chocolate or junk food) and I figure 90 calories plus 10 oz of Water toward my daily intake is better than a 200 cal cookie with no nutritional benefits.

I am still losing, I'm participating in the New Years weight loss challenge and lost 3 lbs last week so I don't think it's hurting me too much. I'm a public policy person, we do lots of cost/benefit analysis in the day to day lol, the benefit of hot cocoa far outweighs the cost for me

During this phase for me I did use it, but also put in chocolate whey Protein Powder with it to up the Protein.

Also there are Protein enhanced hot cocoa from Bariatric Pal, that I liked.

Are we allowed to have sugar free hot chocolate during the liquid phase? With Water of course

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
