Pain, vomiting, and no more weight loss

Recommended Posts

I had the lap band surgery done just before I turned 17 and have had it for 2 and a half years. I found that after first getting it I could still eat the food I like just not as much of it and was dropping weight pretty fast. I notices I had to be a little more careful right after getting adjustments but apart from that I could still eat a healthy amount of food and feel no pain. The issue came when I got 2 cubic centimeters put in when I already had about 7 in so it was a big change and I couldn't eat for a few days so I drained my band and kept it empty until I started feeling better. I had an adjustment put in and after 6 months I still wasn't able to adjust to it so I had my band drained again. It's been a few months and I'm still getting sick, feeling pain, and not losing weight. I get pain in my upper back and it's started in my port now too. It would be easy to go to my doctor but I got it done when I was living in the middle east and now live in Canada. A lot of doctors won't see me because they didn't preform the surgery and it's hard to go a day without regretting getting the surgery. If any one has any suggestions I would be so thankful!

If there are any more surgeons in reasonable distance to your Canadian location, make the calls. The only other thing I can think of is to contact your surgeon and see if he/she can intervene with a Canadian surgeon near you; they may be personally acquainted.

For now, take a look at the "surgeons" tab near the top of your screen. Perhaps you can find someone near you whom you haven't already contacted.

I wish I could refer you to someone, but I don't know of anyone. It would help others in Bariatric Pal to help you if you post your location -- city and province. Also post in the forum for general weight loss surgery discussion/Canadian support group (I expect there is one). You do need to see someone because of the pain you're having.

I'm guessing that your last adjustment took place in the Middle East? When the Fluid added turns out to make it difficult to eat, it's important to go back right away -- within a few days at the most, not six months later. If drinking the Water we're given at the time of an upward adjustment is difficult, it's important to say so on the spot.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
