Hello everyone! Here's my first post. I just had my sleeve done on 12-14-16 (4 days ago) by Dr Irfran Wadiwala in Houston at The Woodlands Specialty Hospital. I was terribly nervous the day of surgery. My dad & sister accompanied me to the hospital and helped keep my nerves in check until it was surgery time. Right before being wheeled back to the OR I was given something to help me relax (Lord knows i needed it). All I remember of the OR was having my hands tied down and the anesthesiologist saying that I was about to go to sleep. The nest thing I remember is waking up in recovery in a lot of pain! I remember trying to tell my nurse how much I hurt and requesting stronger meds. Once they gave me some dilauded I felt like I could rest. I remember waking up in my room and I could barely talk due to being intubated during the surgery. The next day rolled my slowly with lots of requests for pain meds and short walks down the hall to help with gas. GAS PAINS are REAL!! Upon being discharged and arriving home it took some time to pick up my pain RX and try to take them. My doctor only prescribed Tylenol with codeine (should have given better pain meds) and i was too nauseated to keep it down. Long story short I ended up back at an ER to get pain under control. I cried so much that it made the tension in my stomach cause a tremendous amount of pain, but thankfully they started am IV and gave me fluids & more good pain meds. My nurse in the ER has bariatric surgery a couple years ago so she was pretty empathetic :). They also did a CAT scan to check that everything was ok. They let me sleep a few hours in the ER while having my pain controlled. By the time we got back home the next day my sister wrote out a medication schedule to help stay on top of the pain. The next two days have been pretty uncomfortable but tolerable with lots of sleep. I've been taking nausea suppositories (less to swallow thank God) and have stayed with Gas X strips. I think I'm finally over the worst of it now and hopefully on the road to recovery. I don't think I ate anything the first 2 days and barely sipped broth yesterday. Today was full liquids and I've managed to stop on Premier Protein and a couple tbl sp of broc Soup. Trying to keep up with Water. Trying to walk every couple of hours or every time i wake up. I wish the gas pains would hurry up and go away but they seem to be hanging on. I miss picking up & playing with my 3 year old but i know I'll heal quicker if I stick to all the rules.

Sorry you had a rough time. It will get better and in time you will so thrilled with how good you feel. I am almost 6 mths out and feel great. I am a little over halfway to my goal.

Make sure you get lots of fluids in and the Protein will help you feel better. Takes work, but is so worth it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
