Deficiencies question

Recommended Posts

I am feel weak and tired all the time.

Has anyone had any known deficiences since their surgery?

Who did the testing? Should I go to my primary care doctor or can the surgeon who did my surgery do the testing?

Probably you should talk to your band doctor about it, but he might send you to your primary for those kinds of tests.

I've been low on Iron since banding. Which can cause the tiredness you are describing. You can get Iron in chewable form from a Vitamin store.

I am not tired all the time - but I do eat my veggies daily

No and I know I should be taking them. I bought them...but always forget.

I am not eating very health and I know it too. I can't eat anything until some time after noon and some days...not even then. My doctor recommended me doing liquid drinks for the morning because I wasn't losing until he tighted it down.

Ok imho you need a Protein shake (do you have Protein powder) in the a.m. if you can't eat or some clear Liquid Protein - my doc sells some great stuff proti 15 and has 15g of protein and for lunch too.

Take your Vitamins... Put them by your bed and take every night before you go to sleep.. (this is what i do - if i don't see them I will forget - i ususally take mine about every other day - 2 at a time) and start eating healthy again Make sure you are getting 64 grms protein

No wonder you don't feel good.... :)

Get back on program GF - and you will feel better ... Good Luck

I'm trying! I want to, but I get lazy! I do drink...one to two Rivival Soy Protein Drink a day, plus one to two Medifast drinks. I sure I am getting enough protein.

My doctor also has me taking Calcium (tums for me)..

But I also keep the bottle of Flintstones+Iron and Tums on my night stand, and it's part of my nightly ritual when I take my sleeping pills.< /p>

You can go to your general practitioner for a blood work up, and they can tell if you're having a deficiency of something.

The medifast has only 11 grams of pt (been there and done that one twice - but I do like the banana cream shakes and the cream of ck & broc Soups :))- I don't know about Rivvaal ???

I found out about the Revival Soy from a magazine article. Soy has been known to help with stomach fat, which is me me me...also PMS and menopause. Most of the Revival drinks have 20g Protein.

I've got an email into the surgeons office to see if they will do the test.

I am going to put my Vitamins by the bed and try that to remember. It sure can't hurt!

Vitamins - I actually look forward to mine. I use the chewable Centrum Silver and Chewable Viactive Calcium they are kind of like a little "candy" for me.

Protien drinks - I'm pretty tight in the mornings as well. I usually wait until around 10 am then have a Low Carb version of SlimFast. I've tried other drinks and have nothing against them but I like that the Slim Fast has a variety of vitamins/minerals as well as 20g of Protein to 6 Carbs (4 of which are Fiber).

My Vitamins were like candy, till I ran out and bought the 'big bottle', and it's flintstones 'COMPLETE'.. I have no idea what the difference is, except these are about 2.5x the size of 'normal' flintstones+iron and taste like crappy vitamins..leaving Vitamin residue on my teeth.

But, I am toughing it out till I run out, and just making sure not to make this mistake again.. on the bad side, since I got the BIG BOTTLE, it's going to be a while.

I take the SF Calcium soft chews and like Diane.. they are like candy to me.

I've been eating the Weight Control oatmeal in the mornings and it seems to be going through just fine.

I'm guessing you are not getting enough protien in........ I can really feel a difference in my energy level when I don't get enough........

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
