Newme17 3,444 Posted December 18, 2016 Hi, I'm new here. Gathering a lot of info as to what to expect to getting sleeved. I have my first appointment of all appointments on Jan 19, 2017. I have yet to see or hear of anyone having a plant based diet after the surgery. I currently take juice Plus supplements in replace of Vitamins, etc. I'm also trying to change my diet to more plant based as well. Are veggies and fruits not tolerable? Is anyone getting their Protein intake from plant sources, i.e. Beans, etc? Sorry for the numerous questions. Just want to make sure it's doable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I am a pescatarian, but eat a lot of vegetarian meals. There is a Facebook page you can ask to join: WLS vegetarians. There are quite a few people on that page who eat completely plant-based diets after surgery. I have gotten a few ideas there (though I am still struggling with meal planning 6 months out). I haven't found anything that my sleeve does not tolerate in small portions. I definitely eat Beans (and some rice) without any issues at all. I can only eat tiny bits of some raw veggies (cucumbers, carrots, and cauliflower) because they fill me up super quickly, but I can eat lettuce and arugula without any issues. I can eat about half a tangerine or apple before feeling full, but no problems at all with digesting/tolerating any of it. You also can add veggie meat substitutes back to your diet after surgery earlier than you can add meat (if you eat it). I have been eating veggie burgers (half of one fills me up), Boca crumbles, etc. for a couple of months now. Edited December 19, 2016 by mari.beth
Newyrnewme1 2 Posted December 19, 2016 Read proteinoholics. It is a great book by Garth Davis. Excellent resource. He and his father are bariatric surgeons in Houston. Garth advocates a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle . Sent from my VS987 using the BariatricPal App
