Hey friends,

I am 4 days post op, and I've been experiencing these wave-like pains in my stomach. I dunno if it's spasming or gas or hunger pains. Anyone have any guidance on this?

Thanks!

i got my sleeve done on the 14th of Dec. and feel the same way. i would wake up to the pain and would tell myself its because my stomach is empty so id sit up and sip Water. it would dissapate. then i get it again and i would assume it was gas. tried going on different forums to see what people did to help with pain. sleep on left side. walk alot, drink plenty of Water. and even use heating pad.

one of the things that is helping me is that. 1. prayer and I know everyday that passes I do feel a lil bit better. 2. I made a strict schedule that I try to follow. from the time I wake up, what & how much I drink, meal, exercise, rest, rr visits, and I just journal EVERYTHING. it helped me a lot and it made sure I was drinking enough water, because I was getting dehydrated the day before(that's why I started the strict schedule for myself)

Basically start trying different things that you think would work for you to help with the pain.

Walk, drink water and Tylenol and resting on left side are what I'm trying. so far I'm burbing more than yesterday. I wish I could be of more help. hope you feel better soon.

I was warned of stomach spasms so it may just be that. Doctor said they are normal and will go away. Call your doctor if you question anything with your new sleeve.

I am experiencing the same thing, that's why I've started reading this forum. I had surgery Friday the 16th. I was thinking Im hungry, full of gas or spasms. I would drink a tap warm cup of Water, pain pill and walk around the house...that seem to help me until the meds wear off.

I had my surgery on the 13th December. I have had strange gurgling sounds when I drink. I read on a post to sip really slowly, however it is very common. I too have had all sorts of strange feelings. Tightness, pain in my left shoulder, thank goodness it has gone now.

I would love to hear more about how everyone feels and what they have been recommended. My surgeon was a man of little words. I was given a few pamphlets to read.

This site has been the most informative for me to date. I have typed in things I was feeling in the search bar and then read the posts from others who have experienced it before. It makes me feel so much better...less worried and definitely puts my mind at ease.

Take care Amanda

I had my surgery on December 13th as well, my pain is pretty well controlled, with the occasional pain at the top of my abdomen, maybe gas IDK, I have been trying to stick to a full liquid diet, very very hard! Anyone else having the same issues?

I'm 5 days post op. I was feeling those similar pains until I was able to have my 1st bowel movement today. Sorry if this is TMI, just trying to keep it real. Wish you a speedy recovery!!

The full liquid diet is hard. I am finding drinking Water difficult. My sister made me some iced tea to change it up. The Protein has been my challenge I am a bit sick of Optifast. I bought some natural Protein powder for my Soup. It was yuk! I don't like the texture. Can anyone recommend how I can get more Protein? I managed to get up to 50gr yesterday but it was a struggle. I was told I have to have 60-65gr per day. Very hard...

I'm having something similar. I get a spasm sort of feeling. It doesn't last long and doesn't necessarily hurt, but feels really odd. It's also like a gurgle type of feeling.

Try making Protein popsicles out of the nectar flavored Protein Powder... love the strawberry kiwi flavor....ordered it from Amazon. Just add crystal light or Hawaiian Punch flavor sugar free packets to it for a little more "sweet" taste. I'm 7days post op and I find that it's easier for me to get in my Protein this way. I can tolerate the premier Protein shakes drink at least 2 a day but whenever I try to eat something I get terrible gas and gurgling pains.... I know it will get better. I've already lost 13lbs in 1 wk ????????. Just discovered this app and it makes me feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.... hope this helps

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
