How often do you weigh yourself?

Recommended Posts

With me it depends. There have been times when I didn't weight myself for a couple of weeks because I was in a stubborn stall and it made me feel frustrated to not see any movement.

For the first three months I tried to stick to weekly although sometimes my curiosity got the better of me .. usually to my detriment.

At the moment I am going through a big weight loss period so I am weighing myself daily but I know that once I get into my next period of no change I will go back to weekly .. or even wait for 2 weeks before weighing myself. Since I am firmly post-menopausal I don't have to worry about monthly weight/fluid fluctuations so it is easier for me to do it daily if I want to.

But since I now know the way my body acts - 2 - 4 weeks of no change then a week or so of rapid loss then back to no change, I fit my weighing schedule to that - weigh daily when it is coming off rapidly then back to weekly or even longer when it stops for a rest. I also know that when my body takes a rest from scale loss I will start to lose inches ... and when I am losing weight rapidly there is no inch change ... so in the weight loss mini holidays I swap my scales for a tape measure.

I guess ultimately it all depends on whether you are going to start stressing every time the scales don't move or not. I know I did for the first couple of months until I started to understand my own cycles. There is no one perfect method other than the one that suits you best and doesn't drive you crazy.

Daily. Keeps me in check being 18 months post op. When I have a gain of a lb or two, I always know the reason why and just make sure to do better the next day.

I'm like nymea. At first I'd stuck to once a week. But the past month I'm melting away, so I'm weighting myself daily in awe. I'm also trying new foods and adding a tiny bit of vegetables so I want to see how my weight will react to the carbs as small as it is.

I weigh daily and record my weight in an app called Happy scale. It is awesome. It gives you a rolling average of weight loss, current rate of loss, projections for when you will reach your goal based on a few scenarios. I really recommend it.

I live on the scale. I probably get my 10k steps by walking back and forth from my living room to my scale hehe. I also log every bite I put in my mouth and every sip that I take, every minute I exercise. For me, it's all about accountability. I try not to let the temporary Water gain freak me out. If I'm taking in 1000 calories a day of clean food and exercising an hour a day, logically I know the weight gain is either muscle or water. I have to do this (everyone is different), or I'll find myself near 300 lbs. again. It's the only thing that works with me. It's my way of ninja. :)

Right now it's weekly on a Sunday. I may change that to every two weeks or monthly. Don't know yet.

Daily for the last 3 or so years. Lately it has been once a week. I will be starting a diet next month so I will probably weight more often, a few times a week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
