linz0529 0 Posted December 16, 2016 hi there. I am new here. I have my first consultation on Tuesday. I am trying to make a consultation with another surgeon too so that I can choose the surgeon that I feel the most comfortable with. I have struggled with my weight my whole adult life. I gave birth in August and I was already overweight and gained 40 pounds during the pregnancy. I lost 20 of that right away and have gained about 15 of that back. My main concern is if I will still be able to breastfeed my daughter. I am back at work and breastfeeding about 3 times a day and pumping 4-5 times a day. I am not sure if the limited calories will be able to sustain that. I am also at odds about telling my parents about the surgery. I want to tell them. I can't imagine keeping a surgery from them but I know that they won't agree with my decision. My husband is a huge support though. He sees how unhappy I am with my weight and thinks that this will be a great thing for me.
MommyShredder 1 Posted December 16, 2016 (edited) Hi. I'm in the same situation as you almost. I have a baby she's 10 months old, exclusively breastfeed. I've been taking the steps to have the weight loss surgery for pretty much the last year. Well since I had my daughter. I too gained about 40 pounds. Lost about 15 and still really overweight. I will be having surgery hopefully next month. The baby will be 11 months then and perfect time to wean. All the information I've read says you can not breastfeed after the surgery. The lack of calories your taking in and the need for hydration would be to risky. My husband is supportive as well and I did end up telling my parents. My mom is not that accepting of it but it's not her life it's mine. Good luck on everything.
