Post op food ideas?

Recommended Posts

Hello Sleevers,

I have my surgery scheduled sometime in January. My doctor said he will keep me on IV for 4 days to prevent leaks. So I won't be eating anything much the first week.

Can someone suggest second week food to me. What have you guys been having. And if possible share pics.

Thanks a bunch!!!

This is not week 2 per se, but I find a couple of thin slices of fresh ginger root in chicken, beef and vegetable broth to be most delicious and wonderful. Of course the ginger isn't eaten.

You should be given details about what you can eat during each stage. Every surgeon is so different you really have to just wait and see what they tell you.

Most people go from Clear liquids to full liquids (Protein shakes, Soups, I was allowed yogurt)

Then people go to pureed foods and then soft foods. I have been eating a scrambled egg daily for a while now.

It varies so much from surgeon to surgeon it's hard to make suggestions for you.

As long as it's allowed on your plan Soup has been great for me at this stage. I started with beef or chicken broth and once I was on purees I switched to creamy Soups. I love the roasted red pepper and Tomato Soup from Trader Joes. I melt a little asiago cheese in it. When I wanted something a little thicker I tried grits and they were really good. I make Protein Shakes in the morning with almond milk and chocolate Protein Powder and greek yogurt. This morning I added a little PB2.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
