Sorry that this is graphic but I want to know if anyone else is having horrible diarrhea. I had surgery yesterday. Today, I have horrible bloody diarrhea. I was told I would have blood in my stool because of the surgery but this is insane. Anyone else have this problem?

Just like was said above, at least call your surgeon!! Is it dark blood or red bright blood? Just to be safe call them. Better safe than sorry.

I vomited some blood the first few days , this is normal due the blood in the stomach after the surgery. Blood in your stool is not normal, don't think the surgery touches any area that should put blood in your stool. Get a second opinion to be safe. Good luck.

I had diarrhea the fourth day after my surgery because I ate something I shouldn't have. Besides that, I haven't had any issues. Matter of fact, I had three mostly normal bowel movements after my surgery. No blood in my stool.

Hi guys, I am getting my surgery this Tuesday unless I chicken out, the gastric bypass. One of my biggest concerns is the bathroom issues. How many have bowel issues after surgery, even a year out, the idea of my intestines having a blockage scare me too. I had a friend 10 years after her surgery have that happen, is that because of gastric bypass? Any advice would help or information. Thanks again

Minor chance of such things happenning, still going to have my. bypass in a month. I feel like continued fat buildup could also block my bowels, kinda strangle them also. And the uncertainty of Surgery scares me far less than continuing as I am. And I shall March into OSU, since arthritis bans me b from ever running again, with my head held high, clear-eyed and hope in my ❤. I know what I am doing, no quibble, no qualm, I know why I am doing,it, because I do want to live, not only for those who love me but for myself. This the ultimate, most wonderful 📦gift,i can give,ME, the chance to live, and live well. And I know who it will benefit the most. True the surgeon and the facility will be blessed with $thanks to my,insurances, but the benefits to ME are beyond diamonds, platinum and Bill Gate's Very Large Fortune, I will have an abundant supply of Life and I will not waste this valuable gift. If somehow I can pay,it forward so frightened newbies are no longer scared, that older seekers will find that there is Still Hope, that ambivalence turns to certainty, then my struggles are, vindicated.
And as a believer, if that 1 in 100 million bad outcome happens, and at 72 it is Always in the Back,of the Mind, I will wake up with my Lord Jesus Christ instead of in a recovery room, I will have Victory and everyone will have knowledge I did the BEST for ME!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
