How long was your process?

Recommended Posts

Hello!! I'm new to this forum, I've finally decided that its time for a change. I come from a family with weight issues and have been overweight my whole life. Now with certain health issues arising of my own I've decided it's time to really take my problems by the throat and fix my weight issue!! I'm super excited to be starting this journey and I went to my primary doctor and sent in a referral to a bariatric doctor.. I have tricare prime, but I was wondering after your first appointment how long did it take for you to get your surgery date?

Thanks!!

I had an appointment with my PCP on February 3. My first appointment with the surgeon's NP was March 3. My sixth appointment with the surgeon himself was August 10, and my surgery was September 28.

Good luck!

Good luck, I started this process in July, my surgeon's office is a little different, they scheduled all of my appointments and surgery date ahead of time..I have one more nutritional visit on Monday before submitting to insurance and waiting for approval. I'm excited for you! The time will go by fast!

I got my surgery date on the first day that I saw my surgeon. I started the process immediately. 4 months from day 1 to surgery date. Best of Luck! xoxo

Hi, my first consultation was in July. During the process I had to see a cardiologist, psychologist and my primary doctor twice. I also had to quit smoking . I was finally sleeved Dec 6th! Good luck to you.

My first appointment was June 7. Surgery was October 11. Different groups and insurance carriers have different requirements.

Where are you located? I have tricare prime. I had my first appointment with bariatric in October. I have my last nutrition appointment on the 3rd of January. After that, schedule for my decision appointment with the surgeon to tell them with which surgery I want. The military hospital I am at, has a wait list. So I'll be put on that. They told me to expect to have to wait until the spring. So far away. Ugh. Haha. There is a girl that is going through the same place, she started her appointments in July, went to her decision appointment around October 1st, and is still waiting for her surgery date. But it all depends on where you are being seen. There is a tricare weight loss surgery Facebook group that is helpful, it is called Weight Loss Surgery with Tricare.

@jillk101

Honestly I would switch Drs if I could, or at least threaten to.

Why is it taking so long? I also hounded my Dr office. I wanted to get into surgery as fast and possible and I pushed them to make it happen.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
