So happy just had a call from hospital asking if I want my surgery on 4th of January!!! I'm having it done on the NHS and I've already been with them for a year, had my pre op last week and was told it would be a further 3 months to surgery. Super excited now to have it in less than 3 weeks!!! Anyone else having theirs around same time as me?

I am looking forward to a date in January. I should know by next Friday. What a Christmas present that would be! I am still on the fence between the sleeve or the RnY. The RnY is reversible while the sleeve is not. The sleeve, you end up with a banana shaped stomach and two thirds of your stomach is removed...gone forever, the other is when the surgeon bypasses the stomach and attaches the the 2ends of the intestine. And, is reversible! The surgeon will have ore info fore too but I have heard that the bypass is a better choice if you are diabetic, which I am.

Hi lynda1945! I was on the fence also, I am not diabetic but do have to take maintenance meds for life that kinda made the decision for me. I will be having the sleeve. I wish you good luck and look forward to a new year and new life.

I take so many mess right now and have for years. The worst is the potassium huge horse pills! Two of them four times a day. The others are smaller . What I think you are saying is that if you take any pills for life the sleeve is a better choice? Is that right?

Hi lynda1945. I take about 20 pills a day and I'm getting the bypass, they have said there is no problem taking the pills after the first 3 months so I think keep your options open and speak with your surgeon, good luck ????

Lynda I have had an organ transplant and will be on prednisone amongst other things forever. According to my surgeon, he thinks the best option is the sleeve and believes there will be less contraindications with the sleeve/steroid combo

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
