OK so I have been thinking of having the surgery for the last 5 years. As a 43 year old male I have consistently maintained a weight between 285 and 300 pounds for the last 7 years. Finally decided this year to do it. Blood pressure is a little high and I do not have (nor want) diabetes would be happy with 205 or less

Surgery was scheduled for 12/13.

I worked the night before the procedure and it was not that bad. Had my last sip of Clear Liquids at 00:01 and had not eaten solid foods for a day. got off work at 0615 and was in surgery by 0730.

Pre-surgery was typical, IV fluids, versed, gas then that is all you remember. Anesthesia really affects me so I was pretty drowsy post op and through out the day and night being discharged from the hospital on Wednesday morning (surgery was just the a.m. before) however, I took

NO pain medicine, and did not need anything for nausea or vomiting. I was in a bit of abdominal pain but nothing i could not handle and was able to do 8 laps around the nurses station between noon and midnight.

Sipped on Water when ever I was awake and on a Protein Drink (mixed with water) throughout the day but did not finish it all. I normally love cold liquids but could only tolerate tepid water. I have been able to stay on top of my water for the most part and i have had two Jello cups so far. I am really craving some PB2 in Milk but have 4 more days for that.

I sit here day three post op, at 0730 am, having just made some "Better than bullion" chicken broth Thinking of drinking this and going back to bed.,

I did finally use 1,000 mg of adult liquid Tylenol (thank you Meijer) on Tuesday evening, to easy the discomfort of lying flat in bed. THis did help me sleep last night.

:) Good morning,

I am scheduled for surgery on the 4th of January. Where are you? I am in Spokane Wa. Been thinking of getting either the sleeve or the rny surgery for the last 15 years. got the band.. what a waste of money for me. I mean it got some off just not the forever lifestyle I wanted.

Thanks for the heads up on liquid tylenol. did you say you got it at Kroger / Mejer stores? I am sure I can buy it on line too.

God bless I will keep you in my prayers. Sounds like you are a pretty tough guy though.

kudos your doing it.. ;)

Toni

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
