Burping???

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 days post-op and am burping like crazy....I know we're expected to have gas. I just thought burping wasn't such a good thing.

Here's me...freaking out that maybe my band is messed up or something already lol

LOL its ok to burp. You need to get all that gas out of you. Heck welcome to bandland and be prepared to burp lots and lots of times. :biggrin1:

One of the incisions in your belly is for an instrument that maintains the gas pressure in your abdomen so the doc can see what he's doing in there. When they remove that instrument much of the gas escapes at that time but not all of it. You end up with gas pockets that you can even see on your barium swallow following the procedure.

Well, that gas has to go somewhere. It is absorbed by your GI system and it comes out one end or the other.

Thank your lucky stars it's coming out the end it is. :)

I am two months out and am constantly burping. I hear this from many people. I wouldn't worry. Just one of the things we need to get used to!

I'm 2 months out myself and I CONSTANTLY burp. I was never a big burper before and personally I hate when people do it around me but it seems inevitable. I think it's more the PBing you have to worry about when you're just getting started. I know my Dr. told me I wasn't allowed to get sick for 2 weeks after my surgery!

7 months out, and the BURP is my 'soft stop'. I burp multiple times in a row also, almost like a hiccup. And most times after I eat my 1/2 cup or so...I burp a little later on - almost like when the band empties me. hehehe

Burping is normal!

You should see me in public, I'm so use to burping without feeling it coming. When we went to a casino last weekend (me and my mom), we were at some slots, full of people around us, and I just let them go! I don't think about it.. And people look at me, and I go.. oh yeah. It's become so normal/natural to me, it's like taking a deep breath.. I forget you're not suppose to do that hehe.

And when me and my DH are intimate, if I had just drank a lot of Water (which I do around bed time..).. there's been times, where I have a 'band burp'.. it burps deep inside, it doesn't come up, but I can't control it whatsoever. It sounds like I just let out a huge burp inside.. and in the middle of kissing, it always grosses DH out!

I'm not burping so much today...

I'm too anal about this band. Thinking...well maybe the dumb thing slipped already? OMG! LOL Too much to keep worrying about!

EVERY newbie wonders if they just slipped. I remember one person that decided to get a barium swallow w/fluoro every single month. Maybe even every other week just to make sure he didn't slip.

I mean seriously... How do you respond to that?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
