Hi All. Love this app; it has so much useful info, encouraging people, and wonderful success stories. I am still doing research to see if a surgery is for me. I definitely need to make a life change.

I am wondering how much time you all needed for recovery? Is there some time need prior to the surgery as well? I work full time and am trying to see how much time away i would need.

Thanks for any and all replies.

I worked up to the day before, and went back to work 2 weeks after. I had no complications. I was tired that first week, but really had no issues. I have a moderately active job, some computer work along with carrying boxes and doing stairs.

I had my surgery on a Wednesday. I went back to the office on Monday with a lifting restriction for the first four weeks.

I was out a month. I could have gone back earlier but I work a 13 hour day three days straight. So I figured I should be very healed before I tried sitting in a desk chair that long.

I still had drains a week out so there was no way I was getting dressed in work clothes.

The time off before hand doesn't seems prudent. I can't think of any reason why some one would need to.

I worked up until the day prior to surgery and then I couldn't return to work for two weeks (because they didn't want me to drive until after my 2 week follow up). I had my surgery on Thursday and was teleworking from home on Monday. If they would have let me drive I would have been at work on Monday instead of working from home.

Honestly this surgery was an easy one for me. If you keep up on hydrating you only need a week or so. It is the diet that requires time to get used to.

Those first weeks, months hydration is critical and it is super easy to get dehydrated and then sick from it. It happens all the time so if you can sip sip sip constantly at your job, I would guess you can go back within a week or two.

It should not require any time off before other than to go to your required doctors appointments.

Like many here, I worked the day before surgery, had it on Wednesday, worked from home on Friday, and was back in the office Monday.

I was a bit tired, but completely able to function.

I took two weeks off after my surgery date. Probably could have gone back a few days earlier but why push it.

As for before surgery I took a week off there too, just to give me a little time to get everything prepared. With the strict diet they put me on I didn't want my coworkers to have to deal with me being grumpy. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
