Hi, It's my 1st time here today and i am so excited to find a place just for bandsters. I am tired of reading about the rny. It does not pertain to what i really need to know...I want to know what it is like from someone who already went thru it. I have 2 friends that are going to have it after me, and they are already counting on me to be the knowledgable one...Help!

I have been reading alot and learning alot and hope to pass on valuable experience...just as soon as you give me some of yours!

thanks, for your honesty and support

janet:)

Hi Janet,

I understand your needing someone to tell you about this experience. My sister had the surgery in December and has been my inspiration. She has lost 70 some pounds and just told me yesterday that she is now off all pre-band medicines. She is ecstatic and I am just as happy for her. She shares all of her experiences with me and told me she is paving the way for me. I am eternally grateful to her!

Good luck in your journey. This site is a wonderful place to learn from. I too was very tired of reading about the rny because I knew I wanted the band so I was happy to find this site.

Hi Janet!

I just had the surgery on 8/19/03 (3 days ago) and am doing great. I am a little sore where my largest incision is, but nothing like I thought it would be. If you have any questions, give me a shout and I'll be happy to answer them.

:D

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
