What was your diet/food plan one month out from RnY?

Recommended Posts

I had my 1 month nutritionist appt today- long story but she didn't end up seeing me so I couldn't ask her any questions. My office's WOE seems incredibly strict and I am curious what others are able to eat or drink at this point.

I'm attaching my diet... As you'll see at week 5 I can start having blended Soup, oatmeal/grits/cream of wheat/cottage cheese/mashed potatoes, "blenderized" fruit and pureed veggies.

it has been 10 years but this is very close to my old plan ( I pulled it out) it was about 3-4 months before I could really tolerate very much solid foods. I started with adding one thing at a time as different people tolerated different things. I still can not eat beef except ground and real tough meats stick with chicken thighs as they are more moist and lots of fish. deli ham and turkey and of course yogurt and eggs and cottage cheese ( love all kinds of cheese) I can only eat about 2 or 3 bites of any desert before getting sick. sweets have never agreed with my pouch. no raw veggies or salads either. take it very slow it sucks but you will do so much better and will appreciate it in the long run. good luck

You plan is different than mine..I am almost 4 weeks post op..I was on soft foods like scrambled eggs, refried Beans and cottage cheese within 3 days after my surgery..I am still on a very low carb plan 30 net carbs a day till month two..I can only have Protein and condiment type vegetables..1-3 oz and supplement Protein on shakes, drinks, etc .at month 2-6 I can add in soft vegetables..after month 6 I may add grains back but they say it's an option.

I was on pureed for two weeks after being released from hospital, then graduated to soft/mechanical soft for weeks 2 -4 and at day 31, was allowed to start real food slowly after I attended my NUT's post-op class. I'm pretty much allowed anything I can tolerate except for sesame seeds, celery, bread, Pasta, rice. I seem to do better with cheese, pork, beef tenderloin and shrimp than I do with chicken and fish. I did make meatballs from a Bariatric recipe and they were tolerated as well. I can have toasted multi-grain bread or wheat crackers.

My plan is 5 meals a day - 2 meals can have 1 serving multigrain (if there is room after the protein) and 2 meals can have fruit. Also can have 3 good fats - (1oz nuts, 1 tsp olive oil) Currently I drink a Protein shake in the morning (~24g protein), try to have 2 oz of meat (or cheese) at the 3 middle meals and have a glass of fairlife milk before going to bed (13g protein).

I try not to eat anything out that I haven't tried at home first. I don't want to be vomiting or dumping out in public.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
