So disappointed....

Recommended Posts

Had my sleeve surgery on 11/7/16. My HW was 341 on my 1st consult with surgeon on 7/20/16. My BMI was off the chart, told I needed to lose 15 lbs to schedule surgery. Well after all the consults and clearances, surgery day came and I had lost a total of 45 lbs. Down to 296. Then my 2 week post-op visit 11/22 lost 10 more pounds, down to 286. Now I go back for my 1 month f/u visit on 12/22, but as of today I still weigh 286. Granted I'm in the BMI chart....Still at Extreme Obesity level lll. But getting very depressed that the scale hasn't budged. I don't get on the scale every day, once a week, but thought for sure I had lost something more since 11/22. Sticking to diet. Just so depressing

My surgeon has a scale the deciphers between % fat and % Water...if you lose fat but are retaining Water the weight won't change...so ask your surgeon...but don't get frustrated you're still sticking to it and it's hard when frustrated!

I lost a bunch of weight pre op, and then the first few weeks post op. All of a sudden, I have come to a screeching halt. It happens. Your body is adjusting. It will pick up again. It has to.

@@LittleBill thanks for your comment. My surgery is 2 weeks away and I've lost over 60lbs in the 6 months preop so was wondering how it would be right after surgery.

Check out the "don't sweat the stall" posts. There is lots of information about why it happens. Bottom line is that it is your body storing water/glycogen. When it is done you will drop again.

It can be all over the place, but one thing it is not, is linear. I've lost four pounds in three days, and then one pound for the following week. I have to resist the temptation to get on the scale. This is long term. At least, I hope it is. I would hate to have gone through all this and given up all the good food and then get hit by a truck.

I also had my sleeve surgery on 11/7/16. I have lost a total of 40 lbs (including the weight I lost on the pre-op diet). I have been at a stall for 3 weeks and fluctuate between 2 lbs. It's so frustrating!

Thanks everyone, guess I'll have to try and gather some patience and get through this stall. I knew I'd have stalls along the way I just didn't expect them to start so early on. But I will press on, I refuse to let it tear me down to failure, I've worked way to hard and have given up too much to just throw the towel in and quit. I'm gonna win this battle!

I am 3 years out now. I wish that I would have kept a log but my journey from 324 to 170 was a series of almost monthly stalls. Its part of the body adjusting. Keep working your system. It works. Don't get down and don't stop. Gook luck.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
