Does anyone count carbs and what is your limit. I'm trying to figure out a good balance and how low is too low. Yesterday I did not eat enough carbs through out the day (19) and had a hypoglycemic episode. My sugar was 40, then , 34, then registered low, before it stabilized. I'd really like to not have that happen again. Just curious if anyone else has gone through this. Waiting on a return call from my dr.

I had a headache when I got up around 6pm last night I work 1st and 3rd. Chills yet hot sweaty, shaky, words a little slurred. I was diabetic before surgery but never had drops that quick or so long to come up. Nurse said insulin processes sugar faster, plus the mal absorption process w rny so it takes longer to come up. Then goes a little high body releases insulin again then it drops again then balances out. Which is how my night went last night. Most of the time it happens if bypass patients consume too much simple sugar at once kinda like dumping, but not always and obviously wasn't my case. So now its at least 5 meal,Snacks every 3 hours total carbs about 30 to see if it helps. Sugar has ran 80-90 so far today I've had 28 carbs so far still have my dinner later

I am to get in 40 grams per day. I usually save most of those for potatoes which is my big love. eat very low veggies and rarely have fruit as fruit throws me into a hypoglycemic episode quicker than anything try to spread them out during the day too. good luck those drops are not fun.

I love veggies still. Pasta bread and potatos I loved before I don't tolerate them now, rice I haven't tried except for a couple pieces stuck to a piece of chicken I picked out to try one day. I loved bread too. Now it all tastes like uncooked flour

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
