Hi I am new , Bob

Recommended Posts

Hi I am 52 and had to have an EKG, complete blood series

Time between my CONSULT with Toronto lap Band Centre and Surgury... exactly TWO weeks..!!!!

I was so excited that i didn't have to wait long. I think I got in on a cancellation, somebody else getting a case of the nerves... or perhaps conflict with summer vacation plans etc. I was done 11 July.

Since I was a lower BMI I only had to do the Cottage Cheese/Yogurt Pre-op diet for 4 days... Although I did it for 1 week just to be on the safe side.

I figured as long as i was committing to this NEW LIFE I'd start off extra compliant! LOL

Holy smokes Peaches!!

You are on fire! Your weight loss is incredible for the amount of time you have had the band!!

Is that loss from the time you were banded or when you started the pre-op diet??

Wow congrats!

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the site! I am right with you, I wish I had gotten the band years ago!! I missed out on the September lunch and I am hoping to go to the October one... maybe I will see you there!!

Hi Jacklyn55,

I did not have to have a complete physical but I have heard that some people around the age of 50 have to... I'm not sure if this applies to you! I did not have an EKG either, but on my big day the anesthetist said I really should have as I have a heart condition... so the complete physical may be a good idea just in case!

My consult with Dr. C was mid December and I had my surgery Feb 28... but I made my appointment during their transition to the new site and the practice did not seem as large as it is now, so I would think that the wait would be a little longer now. I wish you luck!

From one green to another greene, welcome, eh. It was great meeting you at lunch yesterday. You will have great results with the band. Men do tend to lose weight more quickly than we women do. If you haven't already done so do look at the before and after photos which Gaffer, another Canuck, has posted on this site. The weight which he has lost in 6 months is amazing.

Thanks Greene.

Welcome Bob, It is nice to have another guy in these parts.

For those of you who saw Dr. Coburn, did you have to go get a full physical? I went to my DR. already to get a referral. He took blood and checked my pressure etc. Is that enough?

Also, when you had your consult how long was it until the surgery was booked?

I did not have to have a full physical, but there was some blood work and a medical history that my Dr. filled out for Dr. Coburn. Dr. Coburn's office will also send a letter to your family Dr. outlining some stuff. I was in pretty good condition other that high BP and being morbidly obese so the questions were pretty stright forward.

I terms of time from consult to surgery, mine was about 6 weeks, but that was becasue Christmas fell in between my consult & surgery. I am not sure what the times are like now. The clinic could tell you.

Andrew

Thanks to all for your advice and experiences. I am still waiting on my DR. to let me know when my consult is so am anxiously waiting on the call. I am really leaning towards Coburn's clinic as NO ONE seems to know Dr. Tin out of Credit Valley.

From what you have said here I would wonder about Dr.Tin. I am not saying that he is a bad Dr. but already there are a couple of warning bells here.

Firstly, you mentioned that he did not get back to you about a consult. Secondly, you mentioned that he works out of a plastic surgery clinic. Thirdly, no one hear has heard of him.

All this would lead me to wonder how many bands he has done, and if he is as well set up to deal with the aftercare for banders. Your aftercare is the most important aspect of living with the band. Dr.Coburn's and Dr. Yau's clinic are well established, and have many patient under thier belts with access to nutritionists and nurses who are there to help you along.

I would proceed with caution reagrding Dr. Tin. I can tell you that my experience with Dr. Coburn's office has been great and there are several her who you tell you the same about Dr. Yau's office.

Hi Bob

I think it depends on the schedule with Dr C, I went for my consult on July 20th and was banded on August 15th. Good Luck. I LOVE my band

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
