Is This Thing Working?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 10/10/ 16

I just don't feel like I'm losing enough weight. Compared to the people I see on my Instagram my progress is disappointing. I know I shouldn't compare myself but it is hard not to when people are posting there updates. I try to be positive and congratulate them but deep down I'm frustrated and envious. I was thinking of deleting my app until I got into a more secure place in my journey.

In the meantime I've reached out to people who are several months out to see if they remember a slow start at the beginning. Some did experience the same but I still feel like an isolated case. A lady also sent me a picture of the average weight loss depending on pre op weight.

While I was deciding on getting surgery I watched a lot of YouTube videos of people who accredited the sleeve for giving them their life back. I guess I'm just nervous that I won't be able to say the same.

Attached is the picture the woman sent me. post-280422-14817080374425_thumb.jpg

Trust me you are not alone! I was sleeved 11/17 and as of last week I'm down only 14lbs...which I've seen people lose in like a week. Also same as above...I feel like I'm constantly hungry and can almost eat just about anything (haven't eaten anything crazy lol) but don't get discouraged and don't delete the app. I know it's hard not to compare yourself to others but just know there's many people on this app who are going through or have gone through the same thing we are. I know eventually it'll all be worth it!

I also had slow weight loss a few months after surgery. What worked for me was to focus on the things that I had control over - like exercising and hitting my daily Water and Protein targets. I considered it a success if I was meeting these targets, even of my weight loss was stalled.

So...How long were you all obese before you had surgery?

Even when the scale isn't moving if you stay on your food plan, drink plenty of Water, make sure you walk every day and you will lose FAT.

And you'll be a lot happier if you stop jumping on the scale all the time.

Everyone's body physiology is different. Some of us will lose slower. Your not alone. Its not how fast you lose weight it's the fact you are loosing weight.

Stop comparing with other people. Ignore the statistics...... It will mess with your mind :P

You will be healthy. The weight loss is going to continue for you. We know you will get what you want out of your surgery. You got this! :)

Bear in mind how long it took to gain the weight you are trying to lose. You didn't gain 20, 30, 40lbs in 1-2 months and the weight will come off in fits and starts.

I was really successful with Keto a few years ago and lost 100lbs by eating a diet of baically all red meat and some salad.

I did a keto adapted preop plan and modified my post op plan for keto (I still only ate approved foods for each stage, but I cut out all carbs from the approved foods list). Now I am doing a full keto, and some intermittent fasting days. I don't plan my fasting days, but organic. I do not force myself to eat and just concentrate on drinking lots of Water.

To my understanding with the sleeve, you should lose 10-15 pounds per month. You also need to be exercising as well. This is not GB which has calorie restriction and reduction in calories taken in the small intestine with it. I chose to be sleeved because I did not want to lose weight too quickly. I've seen people with gastric bypass lose weight super quick. They would have alot of excess skin and look sick. I was sleeved on 10/3/16. I have lost 53 lbs so far. I feel great and think I'm on target for losing about 15 lbs per month which is good. Just make sure you're exercising at least 5 days a week and stick with high Protein very low carb diet and you should be fine. If you hit a plateau change something, pick up on your exercise, drink more Water, or something to break the plateau. I still cannot really eat much more than 1/2 cup of food per sitting, but I make sure I only eat three times a day with 2 high Protein Snacks. My doctor gave me a very specific eating plan which is low carb high protein. I've read other sleeve forums and for some odd reason some people think they still eat whatever in a smaller amount and lose weight. That's not going to work and you will not lose weight or start back gaining. Good luck everyone and don't get discouraged. To be honest, sounds like many of you are losing about 15 lbs per month which is around where you are supposed to be. Think about it like this.....without the sleeve would you have been able to lose 15 pounds per month. Like someone said in a previous post, we didn't gain the weight quickly, so it's going to take time to lose it. If you lose 10-15 pounds a month, in six months you will have lost 60-90 pds. Take care everyone and keep on moving towards your goals.

This actually made me feel better. I'm within range of this chart. I always thought I was a slow loser in comparison to others who post. I am well aware I must not compare to anyone. A step at a time. Staying positive and am happy with how far I have come in 14 months.

Ava how are you doing?

I feel like you as I had surgery 10/10 and am only 24 lbs down since surgery and 33 lbs since start of pre-op diet. I tell myself that it is such a small amount for what I've been through. But then I, think how hard it was to lose anything before surgery.

I tell myself to keep to the plan, but that is becoming harder as my appetite is returning.

Two weeks ago I lost 5.7 lbs and was so happy thinking finally I am starting to lose. But last week I gained 3 lbs.

Keep the faith, I am convinced we will make it to a better place in our journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
