MTWilliams 86 Posted December 14, 2016 (edited) My birthday is on the 15th of December and I'm 1 month out of surgery. My only restrictions are carbs and beef. MY family wants to take me out to dinner. Any suggestions as to where I can go? fordtmacrae 21 Posted December 14, 2016 You might try a buffet that has a good salad bar so that you will have healthy choices. Just watch the soft ice cream machine and dessert bar. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
skinny_knees 55 Posted December 14, 2016 I would opt for a restaurant where you can get grilled chicken and steamed veggies. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
Dub 9,922 Posted December 14, 2016 I would go somewhere that has a light Soup. A Chinese restaurant would be my choice.
suzzzzz 1,005 Posted December 14, 2016 I eat out a lot and have found it pretty easy to have good meals. Pick your favorite place and look at the menu ahead of time. chicken is always on the menu as well as Soups. Meatballs, fajitas, insides of tacos, enchiladas, burritos, pizza toppings, burger patty, shrimp, grilled fish, crab, etc. Just leave off bread, rice, Pasta, and make sure veggies are well cooked. My4Brownies 283 Posted December 14, 2016 Restaurant would be my choice too..menus are more detailed in ingredients, calories n healthy choices... Good luck n happy birth day! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
Lucky2Lose 184 Posted December 14, 2016 Looking at the menu ahead of time is key for me too..i would never do a buffet..think I'd overeat and it would be a waste of money for me since I'm eating about 3 oz of food lol..to go box..that's the way I go Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
reree6898 1,164 Posted December 14, 2016 I had my birthday the month after my surgery. I went to Mexican and got a soft chicken taco and just ate the chicken and cheese out of it. I ate about half of the fillings and my part of the bill was less then two dollars!
heidikat72 935 Posted December 14, 2016 you've gotten some great suggestions for how to handle eating out at restaurants so I don't have anything to add there. So I'll just throw this out there - your family wants to take you out to eat for your birthday, what do YOU want to do to Celebrate your birthday? If you want to go out to eat, great - you have awesome suggestions here. But if you'd rather do something else, suggest another option to your family. I was about 3 months out when my birthday hit and a couple of my friends came to me and said "normally we'd take you out to dinner but is there something else you'd like to do instead?" I was very thankful for that - and decided to go with an activity rather than dinner out. I like going to museums and botanic gardens - mainly because a year ago, I couldn't handle all the standing and walking. So we went to a special event at a local botanical garden. It was good to break the habit of celebrations always revolving around food. In the end, it's your birthday - Celebrate how you want and enjoy the day!
