I am only two days post op but that is where my pain is as well. Also in my back, which is worse than my left side. My surgeon said some people get it due to the surgery being so close to the spine. Lucky me! But it makes me move more often because standing is more comfortable then sitting. I was told multiple times by multiple people that the pain would be similar to when I had my lap gallbladder removal. Not at all, definitely worse. I want to slap those people now! Hope you are feeling better soon!

My middle is what still hurts and I'm on postop day 6. I was told that the right side pain is likely due to the liver retractor used (so much for liver shrinking diet?). The pain is much less when I move as much as before. Now it's more soreness than pain. Focusing on bowel movements now lol. I had one yesterday and several today -- it's a poop party!

Hallejullyah - I am so jealous of your poop party! LOL! When does the lower half start moving again? I have gas and wish I could fart but nothing is happening! I've never wanted a fart so bad in my life!

I actually had a bm the day after surgery -- liquid only but it was bc my gas pain was bad and they gave me a dulcolax suppository in the hospital to get the gas moving along. It worked on the gas and let some liquid stool out too the night after surgery. I am ordered to use Miralax daily and was recommended to use colace, so I've been compliant with that. Also got some benefiber to add to my hydration fluids.

My surgery group actually really emphasizes that left side pain is normal and to be expected. The nurse educators did a study on post op complaints and noticed this, so they looked into it further. They actually scrubbed in to the OR. They said for our surgeons, this is the largest incision and the one where the stapler is passed through. They said that wearing the binder you are sent home with as long as possible helps. Don't panic. It's normal, even if it does totally suck!

Our surgeon sendsome patients home with an abdominal binder. Think of an extra thick, extra wide ace bandage. It puts good pressure on your abdomen and incisions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
