I had surgery on December 6th..and I'm on pureed foods. Looking forward I'm trying to figure out what types of recipes you all found were appetizing when you get to the soft solids or the solid stage. My dr goes with the South Beach diet but a lot of those recipes don't seem appealing. Suggestions? :)

Glad to see you are out. Did you do out patient or did you stay over night? I am worried just a little because I am doing outpatient and I am not sure what to expect overnight while at home without nurses checking on me.

I was in the hospital for 2 nights...but if you're going home just make sure that you have what you think you will need during the night near you, Water, ice, premeasured pain meds etc I'm sure you'll do fine!!

Only 6 days after the surgery and already on purée stage! You are doing great! I made soups: fish Soup, mushroom soup, you can have egg salad, tuna salad. I also made meatballs. You can have a lot of varieties, just make sure your food has Protein. Let me know which recipe will interest you, I will send to you.

Day six on puréed? I don't begin puréed until 2 weeks.

I'm on Clear liquids day 1-3, full liquids day 3-14, then puréed 2-4 weeks. I have a sample menu of puréed diet given by my nutritionist.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
