So I meet the surgeon today. I'm nervous for some reason. I'm not really sure what the appointment is though. General meeting? A time to ask questions? Assessment? At this time, my appointment for psych eval, and with the nutritionist is not until the end of the month, and I'm still waiting for the endoscopy appointment. I have a follow up with the nurse practitioner at the end of January, where I get weighed and see if I've made that 12 lb loss to get a date for surgery.

I'm really hoping he tells me what the pre-op diet is, even if it doesn't start under just before surgery.

I also don't have a long list of questions to ask if I get a chance to ask him. I feel unprepared for this appointment, lol.

My appointment with the surgeon (part of my sixth "diet visit") was about 15 minutes or so of him talking about "what he was going to do to me." He didn't talk about anything outside of the surgery itself. I actually found him to be a lot more personable than I thought he would be. (But on surgery day, he didn't speak to me at all, so my overall assessment is that he is very talented, but not particularly caring or an ace with bedside manner...)

Just got back, it was fairly simple. Mostly just talking, asking if I had questions, explaining a few things. Still thinks I'm a good candidate for WLS, and thinks my decision to sleeve is fine. His concern is my current heartburn issues, but he's ok with it if I am.

I appreciate the honesty my program seems to have. They don't handhold. If I want to succeed, I have to change, and here's the tools to help that.

Still nervous, of course, but I feel as though I'm grounded in my decision. Just have to keep taking the steps. The hardest part isn't the surgery, but me.

Surgeon himself seems very personable. Typical young cocky doctor, LOL. Not a bad thing, I suppose, you need a doctor sure of his skills.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
