So my Dr. gave me a sample to taste its a Protein Drink Bariatric Advantage (Cookies & Cream).... Omg it's so disgusting! (to me...)

Please Lord somebody tell me they're better tasting Protein drinks out there, I know there are plenty of brands.... I also know we all have different taste but I'm not a fan of tasting things. Is there anything around similar to Slim fast that taste good to me but this stuff is.... Blahhhh

I tried one of the Bariatric Advantage ones - and promptly threw the rest of the bag of powder in the trash. Undoubtedly the worst Protein powder out there in my opinion!

I mainly stuck to powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and Syntrax nectar since my practice prefers we stick with whey isolate powders. A lot of people like the premier ready to drink shakes - they are whey concentrate so my practice prefers we use them only as a last resort. I do have some occasionally as the "creamer" in my coffee.

The Bariatric Advantage powder tastes too chalky for me, lol. My favorite brands are Premier Protein and Muscle Milk. They have a more liquid texture and actually taste pretty good. Premier Protein is the best option because it's low in carbs and sugar, and it has 30g of protein in each serving. They taste a lot like Slim Fast, in my opinion. You can buy a pack of 4 for about $8 at Walmart, in the pharmacy section.

the unjury vanilla and chocolate i mixed with skim milk and it was like drinking chocolate milk. their chicken Soup flavor mixed with Water was just like drinking broth and made for a nice warm savory change.

the nectar ones are a little thicker - the fruity ones i mixed with crystal lite and actually used a little more than 8oz liquid to thin them down a bit.

Protein shakes are a very personal thing though - what some people hate, others love.

My bariatric center gave me a list of different brands I could try - their only requirement was that it must have at least 25 g of Protein per serving. I opted for Jay Robb Egg White Protein or Whey Protein. They are really good - chocolate has a little of an after-taste but the vanilla is really good - especially if you use a little almond milk. I get them at GNC.

If you still haven't found one that works for you, let me know and I will send you a copy of my list so that you can choose.

FYI: a lot of time GNC or Vitamin Shoppe have free "shots" of the Protein Drink so that you can try in the store before you buy it.

I can't gag down any of the shakes. Way to thick. I've tried Quest brand all flavors. Vanilla by far is the worst for me, but I've never been a sweets type. I stick with the unflavored nectar and add it to broth or yogurt so far. I'm excited to try the fruit nectar ones. I heard a lot of good things. Also unjury chicken has some good reviews.

I ordered samplers from every brand that had them available. I liked the Syntrax Nectars the best, and a couple of the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury flavors were OK. You can mix them with less milk/water to make pudding, or more milk/water to make them thinner. The fruit flavors, I froze them in tubes to make ice pops (found the tubes on Amazon) which made the first couple of weeks a lot easier to get Fluid and Protein down.

But don't stock up TOO much before surgery. After surgery, I couldn't stand the ones I'd bought tubs of, and ended up drinking the pre-mix Premier Protein they gave me in the hospital, and for the most part since surgery that's been all I could stand. LOL.

Oh, yeah... and I got sick to death of sweet... found the trick to putting unflavored in bouillon or broth... mix it with a tiny bit of warm Water so it dissolves, and make the bouillon with less hot Water than normal, then mix it together. That way it doesn't clump.

I have also tried the Adkins Lift Protein Drinks. It is the consistency of Water. I've tried orange and berry. Not bad at all. 20 grams if Protein per 16 oz bottle. In the nutritional section at Walmart about 7 bucks a four pack. A little pricey for me, but waaaay better than shakes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
