One week post op and no weight loss

Recommended Posts

I am exactly one week post op, I started losing about a pound a day then I starting gaining a pound a day and now I am right back to my pre-surgery weight. I'm so frustrated. I have no problems getting in all my liquids and Protein, I track my calories and gett anywhere from 600- 900 calories a day. I'm on full liquids, I have not cheated, but I also have no restriction, I can easily finish the whole container of yogurt when I eat. Any advice

You're probably just still really swollen. Give it some time I'm sure it'll start to come off! Best of luck!

stay off the scale right now. your body is trying to heal - let it heal. I didn't lose anything the first two weeks. you were pumped full of iv fluids in the hospital and you just had major surgery - let your body focus on what it needs to. the weight loss will come.

also, on full liquids - you are not going to trigger restriction. you'll feel the restriction once you move onto dense Proteins. Some people have issues getting their liquids in initially but that is due to swelling not the true restriction of the sleeve. It is important early out to measure the amount of liquids/food recommended by your practice and stick to that. (non caloric liquids being the exception - consume as much of that as you possibly can).

900 calories seems like an awful lot that early out. I wasn't really tracking calories while on full liquids but I was definitely below 600 calories a day. Even now at 6 months out i'm at 700-800 calories a day.

Wow thats a lot of food for one week out. Im still at 2 - 3 ounces per meal. Any more than that makes me feel aweful. Measure everything and put your utensil down between bites and enjoy. I found I eat less doing this but have to remind myself "put the spoon down" lol

I was sleeved on December 6th and haven't lost any weight since then. I am still on liquids, and I feel so disappointed

Practically everyone has a stall in the third week. Your body is just catching up to all of the changes. Just stick to your plan, and the scale will begin to move again soon.

Good luck!

It has just been a week since your surgery. Your body has been through a huge trauma, and is trying to recover. Also the fluids and gas they pumped into you during the surgery take time to exit your body; in fact, most people gain a little during the surgery process itself.

Just stick to your plan and the scale will start to move soon. I would stay off of the scale for the time being if it is going to upset or discourage you.

Good luck!

It's all those fluids they pumped you full of. Keep drinking and flush those out and the scale will move...in the right direction. I promise!! I was so puffy that first week!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
