Thinking Ahead

Recommended Posts

I'm a teacher. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 14, and then I get to be off until January 3rd. I know it varies for everyone, but under best case scenario, what kind of minimum restrictions should I expect? My students have autism. They are awesome, but some can have difficult behaviors. They pull forcefully on me and sometimes drop to the floorbwhile I have their hand. One might drop his legs in my lap if we're sitting together, or kick his leg up to my abdomina if he's dropped to the flioor. I might have.to pull a table or chairs our of the way, and there's a little gurl I lift in and outbof a wheelchair. (I know that will be off limits for a while!)

The more I think about it, my job is pretty demanding physically. I'm not sure i'll be healed enough to go back in 3 weeks. I was on workman's comp last year and my principal wouldn't let me come back, even when my only restriction was not lifting over 40 lbs. I finally told the doctor not to put any down.

Where were you guys at 3 weeks out?

Three weeks might be pushing it with such a demanding job. I had surgery on November 22nd and convinced myself that I would be going back in two weeks. However, it wasn't even an option because I had complications. I am crossing my fingers now that my doctor will allow me to go back to my non-demanding (I sit down at work) job when I go to my next appointment on December 23rd.

I know it will vary based on the person, success of surgery, and everyone feels different afterwards. My advice would be to be prepared for the possibility that you may need more time off. At a minimum you may have some restrictions when you go back. I wish you all of the luck! :)

I had to face my grandsons and their constant desire to wrestle with me about six weeks out. They are small, but energetic and determined. And, there were three of them. I did fine with it, but I think three weeks would have been pushing it. The thing is, while your incisions may be sealed up on the surface, there is deeper healing that needs to take place. At least, that is what they told me at my program.

I had my sleeve on 11/28 and I go back to work Thursday. I'm a Labor &Delivery nurse but my doctor released me to go back with no restrictions. I'm SO nervous as my job is very physically demanding.

Creatingthenewme... Do you mind me asking what complications? If so, no problem and forgive me for asking!

When I had my GI test the morning after surgery they could see the liquid that I drank go into my stomach but it took a very long time to exit. Essentially it was too tight for liquid to pass and I had two options. One, have a second surgery or two, wait for the swelling to go down which should fix the complication. I am about three weeks out and still have a very hard time swallowing and getting liquid down. I did have a scope procedure last week where they opened everything up some so I'm just patiently waiting for it to get easier :).

Wow. That's pretty tight if liquid can't get through easily. You have a great attitude. You. must have been so disappointed.

I definitely went through the stage after surgery of regretting it and thinking it was the biggest mistake of my life. Each day gets easier though and I just keep thinking about the end result!

I teach, as well. My surgery was 20 December 2016 and I was back in school the Tuesday after the new year. Granted, I do not teach demanding students, but I was back to a full time schedule in 3 weeks with no problem.

I'm just messing with you. I have a character flaw. If I was in your class, you would have sent me to the principal's office by now. :D

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
