Intermittent pain on left side of abdomen

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else experienced pain on the left side of your upper and lower abdomen? Its intermittent pain, but pain nonetheless that I've never experienced before. I'm thinking it's gas, as when I press on it the pain goes away, but quickly returns shortly after. I have been dealing with diarrhea the past 24 hrs, so could be that too, but not sure.

Hi... Ho fat out are you? I had really bad pain a few weeks after surgery and it was from premixed Protein shakes. Those have lactose in them and after surgery my tolerance of lactose became nonexistent.

Once I stopped that type of shake the pain stopped.

I will pay close attention to how my body reacts to my next morning (pre-made) shakes. Thanks for the advice.

Please let us know what the doctor says. I'm about 6 weeks out with getting my band and I also have left side stomach pain that comes and goes.and the pain is not bad most of the time but a few times it has became pretty strong. Just wandering what it could be.

I started taking stool softener daily, after 3 days, no more cramps. And BMs are normal again.

I was having the same issue. The way it feels to me is like if you were running and got what I call a stitch in your side. It doesn't happen as often as it did when I first had the surgery. Mine is usually when I am being active...walking around shopping, etc. I was thinking maybe gas also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
