Sometimes you just have to SCREAM...

Recommended Posts

I have BC/BS of NJ....paperwork was submitted on June 8th....as of Sept 1st I had heard NOTHING....over 50 phone calls by my Doctor...nada....so I went to the NJ Division of Insurance and they had my doctor send a certified letter to BC/BS - that gives Ins Co 10 days to respond....well...BC/BS responded by denying me....saying that "lapband is not proven to reduce your BMI"....huh ???...NJ Dept of Ins woman said to appeal it but with BC/BS it could take 4-6 MONTHS...so I did what any rational person would do.....I called BC/BS back...got a supervisor...and proceeded to scream and curse at the person on the phone as if I was a drunken longshoresman....I must have used the "F" word a dozen times and my wife said I was screaming at the top of my lungs....I ended my conversation by telling them "if I drop dead because you ***********, have your thumbs up your ***, I hope one of you SOB's will come tell my 12 year old daughter why you jerked me around so long"...and hung up. At that point, I decided to pay for it myself. AN hour later, my doctor got a call back saying they had taken it back to the medical director, and that BC/BS was now approving my surgery for this coming Tuesday....SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO GO POSTAL I GUESS.....I feel bad for the woman I screamed at but if that's what it took...so be it...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
