When can I take some miralax?

Recommended Posts

I am 6 days post op from gastric sleeve. A lot of the gas has gone but I still have some but tolerable. I have the feeling like I need to have a BM but I have had this feeling for three days. I really feel like if I took a dose of Miralax , I will feel so much better. Should I wait or should I go ahead and take it? I have read on other forums where people have taken stool softeners as early as 3 days post op. Just need some advice please. Thanks.

You should be able to go ahead and take some. I could take it as early as day 1. Just can't take a laxative because it can cause bad cramps. The stool softner should be fine though. :)

That early after surgery it's always best to seek the advice of your surgeon......what other's were able to take right after surgery may not apply to you. I had the email address for my surgeon's nurse where I was able to get very quick responses from her right after my surgery. If you don't have that then just give them a quick call...........or sometimes they put information like that in your discharge notes....take a look at that too.

YES...take the Miralax. My PA told me Friday afternoon to take it. By Saturday I had gone and again today already and it's only after 10am. I had the sleeve and the Miralax worked great. Good luck.

My PA told me not to take Miralax that soon after surgery so I would check with your DRs office first

Thank you all. @smyleetn... you can get miralax over the counter at Walgreen, CVS, Walmart and you don't need a script. I bought some before surgery in case I couldn't go and just by luck I can't go .

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
