Hello all! I was just reading posts in a Facebook group I am a part of, and one lady posted about losing her hair. It had tons of comments from people saying they all lost hair, too. Is this something to expect? My surgery is scheduled for December 23 and I already have very thin hair, so I'm kind of worried.

Hi Hayley,

Good timing! @@BettyG just posted a great article a few days ago. She explains the hows and whys and what to expect. the good news is that if it happens, it is just temporary.

Here is the link: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/384412-post-surgery-hair-loss-explained/

Good luck with your surgery.

Most people start losing hair 3 or 4 months out. It is due to the stress of the surgery and the fact that we are basically starving the first few weeks out. Some people say getting all your Protein in helps but many do everything right and still lose hair. It does grow back.

I lost a significant amount of hair. Biotin won't prevent it but could help once your hair is ready to regrow. My hair texture changed a lot as well. My nut says that hair follicles in the resting stage will shed around 4 months, which is exactly when it happened for me. I lost hair for about six weeks and now have curly hair.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
