OUUUCH. 3 DAYS OUT & OUT OF PAIN MEDS

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am threes days out from my sleeve. I was given liquid hydrocodone. 1tsp / 4x daily.

I don't like to take pain meds unless I absolutely have to, but this soreness is a little too much to bare at the moment. I am walking, getting my fluids and taking my Vitamins.

I was just wondering if it is normal to need refills on meds or if it is ok to ask for something stronger if it is not working for you. I do understand being sore comes with the turf, but, it should be tolerable!

What types of meds worked best for you?! Did anybody need refills so soon?!

Thanks!!

I had a huge bottle of the stuff.

Get some liquid tylenol/acetaminophen. It helps a lot.

I had to get a refill of my pain meds. I just called the surgeon's office and my husband had to go pick up the Rx because it was a narcotic.

talk to your surgeon. are you taking more than prescribed (in other words more than the 1tsp/ 4 times a day)? if you need more medication than that, your surgeon needs to know. People have different pain tolerances and/or there could be something else that needs to be attended to if you are having intense pain. Either way, your surgeon needs to know so it can be managed.

Thank you! I just spoke with them. I was completely honest and told them it was not strong enough for me. They told me to double the dose, I let them know I have already been doing so.

Dr. Is in surgery all day today so the nurse is hoping she will get a response to help keep get through my weekend!

Thank you!

Be VERY careful adding Tylenol/acetaminophen to pain medications - most narcotic pain killers are already mixed with it, and it takes VERY little beyond the prescribed amount to poison your liver. The abbreviation APAP indicates acetaminophen.

The maximum dosage for healthy adults with no liver impairment is 4 grams (or 4,000 mg) a day. Most dosages of narcotic pain killers have 325 mg of acetaminophen. So just keep an eye on your total acetaminophen intake.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
