Trying to get back on my ideal weight

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I'm new here. I'm from Chile, so please excuse any grammatical errors and the use of metric system, I'm two and a half years post op (vsg). Before my surgery I weighted 85 kg and I had congenital dislipidemia, hypothiroidism and insulin resistance. After six months of post op diet and excercise (swiming and gym) I finnally reached my goal of 56 kg. I was so damn proud!

A few months after my surgery I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I had suffered for years from chronic pain without getting a diagnosis.

I started to take pregabalin and duloxetin but after a couple months the drugs stopped working. The pain was unbearable and I stopped working out. Then I was diagnosed with depression, chronic fatigue and endometriosis, osteorthrosis and GERD.

With that came more medication (seroquel, escitalopram, higher doses of pregabalin and tramadol) and treatments that I couldn't afford because working became almost impossible. I started regaining my weight and I was commited to a psychiatric institution two times because of suicide attempts. I'm better now. At least mentally, but I'm currently stuck at 70kg with a 600 calorie diet. And I try to excercise at least 2 times per week (eliptical and ballet fitness). I don't have money to visit a doctor and ask if what I'm doing is safe or OK. if any of you have similar problems please help me out. Specially with a meal plan.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm 9 months out. But, I have Multiple Sclerosis and I can relate (a little) at least with a few things. The medication your on alone can cause weight gain, it sucks but not a lost cause.

I'm sure any excersises are fine. As long as you listen to your body and take it easy.

Gosh! You have been through a lot! I'll keep you in my prayers.

As far as a meal plan?

Two years out?

600 calories?

I eat a cup in a half at Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have two Snacks in between. It goes something like this.

Breakfast (B) lunch (L) dinner (D) Snacks (S)

(B)

oatmeal w/ walnuts and honey, a boiled egg.

(S) 1/2 cup low fat yogurt.

(L) A lettuce wrap with turkey, Tomato, thinly sliced chili pepper. (Because I like a little spice) Low fat mayo sometimes but, mostly some mustard.

(S) cheese and Almonds.

(D) Homemade chicken Soup with papaya, ginger, spinach and rice. (I save the broth for 45 minutes after I eat the chicken, papaya, ginger and spinach.)

(B) Two cups of coffee w/creamer and almond milk.

(S) Pear w / Peanut Butter.

(L) (Baked) 1/2 a chicken breast, cut up in cubes, roasted eggplant.

(S) Whole Wheat crackers, spinach/artichoke hummus.

(D) Salmon, Quinoa, and (my salad) lol, it's a salad I eat all the time. Expecially if I'm still hungry after dinner. Or whenever I still feel like I'm starving!

It consists;

Fresh...Spinach, purple onions and green onions cut up, cilantro, mint leaves, pepper (thinly sliced), bean sprouts.

These are a few things to eat. I hope I gave you some ideas. If I missed anything specific you wanted answers to, let me know. I'll try to help.

Good luck and best wishes!

Perhaps you could restart by going on a two-week liquid diet. Protein shakes would be good for that.

The best Protein source I know is chicken breast. Four ounces (about 113 grams) of chicken breast has 32 grams of protein. If you ate that, or something similar, twice a day, you would be very close to your protein goal of 70 to 90 grams.

Have beef or turkey Jerky and cans or pouches of tuna or chicken stashed in your purse or car. Also, hard-boiled eggs make a nice snack.

For Breakfast, Greek yogurt is really tasty and the kind I get has 12 grams of protein per serving. Two scrambled eggs will get you about 14 grams of protein.

Make sure you stop eating carbs like bread, Pasta, rice, and anything with sugar in it. Always eat your protein first, followed by vegetables and fruits.

Last thing, be sure you are consuming 64 ounces (about 2 liters) of Water daily. Protein and Water, protein and water, protein and water. It's becoming my mantra!

Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
