Today I am on day 11 out of 14 of my pre-op liquid diet. I have my surgery on Monday 12/12/16, and I know I am almost there, but today has been a hard day for me.

Overall, I feel I have really done well on this liquid diet. I haven't cheated, I have been following my Doctors recommendations and meeting all my Protein and Water requirements, and after the first few days I haven't really had any cravings either. It has been really surprising to me how much I have been able to really stick with this and trust the process.

The one thing I didn't really think about or prepare myself for was the emotional side of this process during the pre-op diet. I have had some emotional up and downs, but today is just a bad day; I find that I am just really sad and angry today. It started with trying a new Protein Shake flavor for Breakfast on my way to work this morning and it was SO HORRIBLE that it pretty much just ruined me I think. I find myself craving anything and everything; even things I never ate before I started this. My emotions are all over the place and I just find myself wanting to cry.

Did anyone else experience a lot of emotions during the pre-op phase of their journey?

Oh yes, I sure did! I think I wrote a post on my 6th day pre-op diet. I was angry at everything!! My poor husband and kids. I was sooo snappy.

This is when the realization that I was a mental food addict started to come into focus. I really was in denial until that point. At two weeks post-op I was in full awareness, as every emotion was amplified by my loss of my best and most dysfunctional friend: food.

What I can say to you is hang in there. It will get better and your emotions will steady as you learn a new way of thinking about food. For me this was at about 4 weeks post op. I still struggle and get emotional, especially during this season where I used to eat the most for comfort.

You're almost to the surgery finish line! Congrats, and keep going. You got this! Look forward to the time when the food will no longer control you and your thoughts. It will happen. :)

@@The New Kel Thank you so much. With tomorrow being the big day I am again feeling so many things. I am very scared to have surgery since it is my first one, but I just keep praying for strength from God through this hard time. I know it will all be worth it in the end!

Before I chose surgery I asked to be led toward an avenue that would be positive and the best overall thing to do and good for myself and those I love. Soon I was pursuing this path. I'm thankful for it everyday I wake up feeling so much better than pre surg.

Best of luck to you and prayers for a speedy recovery!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
