Hi, I'm scheduled for October 8 with Dr. Ren at NYU in New York. I start liquids on this coming Friday the 21st. It's taken 9 months to get to this point. I'm ready to get on with it!

The liquid diet helps to shrink the liver & make the surgery easier for both the doctor and the patient.

My preparation took 9 months in order to get everything lined up properly so the insurance company would approve without problems (I hope). Although I had done Weight Watchers, my doctor recommended that I do 6 months with him so we could claim medical supervision.

I haven't had a moment's doubt about doing this. I wish it had been faster, but things happen at their proper time.

Bill

I'm getting my surgery Oct 12. I started on my pre-op diet yesterday . I have to go on a three week diet because my BMI is over 40. I am so anxious. I can't hardly wait. I'm like a kid waiting for Santa...lol

Hi, I'm new too. Started process in April, have a 10/5/07 date for my lap band. Started my 2 wks of carnation instant Breakfast yesterday, only on day 2 and I'm really starved, have a headache , and am almost nauseated from hunger. I am not drinking enough no cal liquids, so hope to do better with that from now on to see if it helps. Any suggestions to beat the hungers when you are pre op? thanks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
