I didn't have a drain after the sleeve, but due to an absess after a gall bladder surgery I had one for almost a month (yes, a MONTH).

Aside from being a total pain in the butt, it's not too painful. And I showered with mine. You're going to be loving life when it finally comes out!

@@Crafty Li'l Devil, this may be a repeat, as I won't read through three pages of replies. Brace yourself against jolting coughs, sneezes and laughter by firmly pressing a pillow against your middle (the incisions). It helps a lot.

Morphine. Lots and lots of Morphine.

Blow. Lots and lots of blow.

In all seriousness though,

I agree that walking is good, but you let me down.

I didn't need anything other than my wife! Perfect to cuddle with. Excellent massage. Helped me look for Soup and something other than Water to drink at the airport. Wouldn't let me carry my backpack... Yep, she was all I needed!

Do you have a single brother by chance? :-)

If you don't mind what purpose does it do for you? I sleep in a recliner now cuz the bed is just so uncomfortable. Will this make sleeping in a bed more comfortable, in your opinion?

After the surgery, the first week, it was uncomfortable to lay completely flat, so the small incline helped my breathing (I'm asthmatic), and it made it a lot easier to get up for my walks, meals... Etc. It does make sleeping in my bed more comfortable.

In all seriousness though, walking is the best way to minimize the gas pain. Force yourself to walk!

Permit me to be redundant here. Walk it off, as the coach always said. I had my surgery sometime around 4:00 PM on a Tuesday. On Wednesday morning (I am a morning person) I was up by 0500 and walking. I put in almost a mile by the time they kicked me out right after lunch. I had virtually no pain at all, and I attribute a lot of that to getting up and getting moving right away. And if you look at my stats, I am one of the largest of the large around here.

What are your stats? I was looking and couldn't find them. I'm at 428...well 418 now. I've lost 10 lbs so far this week

I guess if you are on phone or a tablet they may not display. They do on one of these old fashioned computers, on a side bar to the left of each post. I started out at 481. I made it to 414 in just about four months preceding surgery, and am currently at 370, two months out from surgery. The past two weeks have been kind of slow, but I suspect things will pick up again in due time.

Congrats! You're doing great! I'm so worried about being able to get enough exercise after. I hurt pretty badly all the time from injuries I sustained in an accident 2 years ago

Thank you. My biggest issue is old age creeping up on me. As the weight comes off, you will feel better and your joints should do better just from a lighter load. For example, my feet used to kill me by the end of the day, and I spend a lot of time standing or walking. Now, they never bother me. And the only real thing that has changed is they aren't carrying so much load on them.

I was sleeved yesterday. Every time I get up to pee I take a walk. My first one was 3 hrs out of surgery.

I am in a recliner because the hospital bed is terrible for my back. Much mor comfortable. I have 5 hospital pillows stuffed around me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
