Lap band to Sleeve (BCBS HORIZON?)

Recommended Posts

Hello!

My questions is towards people who have went from the Lap band to the sleeve- how did you know the sleeve was right for you? Have you had more success with the sleeve? Do you feel different? Please let me know how it has altered your life.

I am literally in the process of looking up the sleeve as I post this, so I apologize if this thread exists already.

About me: I was banded dec.2013 (3 years ago omg). I have not had success with it even though I really have tried through these 3 years. i just moved from AZ where I had Premera BCBS, and I now have Horizon BCBS (ny/nj). I still have a lot of research to do to decide if I would ever go under the knife again and how much I can afford but I am really considering it especially if it is covered by my insurance (just was signed on today so I have to wait a bit to see if it is).

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do it! I was in the same situation and am so happy with the sleeve. I had emergency surgery in Jan. for band removal and swore I would never have another surgery. I was sick for 7 years with the band and didn't lose that much weight even though I followed the plan exactly. I was sleeved in July and have not been sick a single time! I've lost 42 lbs. in 4 months which is more than I ever lost with band and I feel great. My only regret is that I didn't get sleeved 8 years ago!

I loved my band and lost 95 lbs but I threw up a lot so the the doctor suggested the sleeve. Well she took all the Fluid out of the band 6 months before the sleeve so I gained 45 lbs back fast. I now am down 65 lbs. Still not back to the original amount I lost with the band. I would not do it again. I have never been the same and its been 2 years. My fatigue is horrible and Ive aged a lot. I follow the guidelines and take all my Vitamins. My check ups are great and all levels are normal. Just can't figure out what happen to me. I seem to be the only one when I talk to a lot of other women. Maybe some one on here is facing what I go thru. I don't know

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
