Salads and Dry Mouth Questions

Recommended Posts

When did you all start eating salads? I'm craving one but don't want to hurt my new sleeve. I had surgery on Nov. 11th. Before surgery I was 307. During surgery I weighed 265, I am now 242. So I am doing good. On my last week of puree foods then I can start soft. :-) is salad considered a soft??

Also, how do you get rid of dry, cotton mouth? I drink Water all day but still mouth is dry. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your help.

Lettuce is considered a raw vegetable, so when your plan allows them, you can eat a salad. It was 6 weeks for me. However, with so little space for food, after having Protein, a couple of small bites of salad is all I have room for. I didn't have a dry mouth after the first day so can't help there.

Hav you tried biotene mouth wash it helps with dry mouth and salads are not considered soft foods bc the ate leaf and hard to swallow. Everyone's surgeons guidelines are different tho so I would suggest you asking ur surgeon or your NUT. I know I cannot have salad till I'm on a full regular foods diet. Best of luck sounds like your doing awesome!!!

I have the same issue with dry mouth as well I was sleeved on November 7th. I get all my fluids in and wake up multiple times in a night to sip on Water because my tongue sticks to the top of my mouth like velcro when I go to sleep. I'm going to have to pick up some biotene. I've read in several places that this is a common side effect of this surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
