Sleeve day surgery?!?!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had the sleeve surgery and gone home the same day? I have been seeing a surgeon that has an excellent cash price and finally got my surgery scheduled. But now I find out that I'm expected to go home the same day. I have never heard of this. This surgeon comes highly recommended and I've seen several on this app that use him. Will I be ok to go home after just having sleeve surgery?

I spent the night in the hospital but wish I could have gone home instead. Was out by 11am the next day.

I had VSG on 11/14 @ 7:30 am. I dealt with quite a bit of gas discomfort and nausea in recovery. I received meds to treat that. (Keep in mind, I had to comprehension of time for several hours, lol) Also, when I got up to walk the first time, I was HORRENDOUSLY nauseated. Again, got more meds and that knocked it out. By 1pm I was up in bed eating ice chips and sipping Water. By 1:30 I was walking around the nursing unit. By 3:30 I was discharged and at 4, I was picking my kids up from daycare (with my husband).

After the initial nausea/gas pain was resolved, I had a text book perfect recovery. I'm glad I could sleep in my own bed that night! =)

Lots of the WLS places around here do same day surgery. My guess is that most people do fine with it or they wouldn't do it, it does save money.

I stayed 2 nights on a morphine pump. I am glad I did, but I am the odd person around here. I had zero pain and minor nausea but I still felt week and shaky. My bedroom is upstairs and even 3 days post-op I worried about climbing the stairs. Also, lots of people sleep in a recliner for a few days because they don't want to lay flat or accidentally roll over on their stomachs. Those adjustable hospital beds are nice.

My guess is you will do fine though.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
