One week out after surgery feeling miserable

Recommended Posts

I got sleeved on 30/11/16, was allowed to return home two days later. Everything about the procedure was routine. I got approved for purées almost like straight away the only problem is i can never seem to drink anything without feeling horrible for a long while after, the gas pains are so bad, and it really doesn't seem worth it to me considering that I'm never really hungry anyway. I was given OxyContin and Endone to take at home but every time I take them I break out in this horrible red rash all over my body so I'm not sure how to manage my pain. I've lost about 7kg (or approx. 18 pounds) since surgery and I always feel tired. The point to all of this is there any way to get around gas pain? And the skin irritation? And more importantly when are you generally expected to start feeling normal again?

Hi. Mine was the same day. I felt horrible until today. Woke up didn't need pain and nassaeu meds for the first time. I am on liquid still until I see my doctor. My gas pains are still there. However a bit better since i took it upon myslef to introduce soft food because prior to that it was unbearable. Hang in there, tomorrow maybe that day you feel better. Don't forget to use that breathing tool they give you it helped with the gas.

You are allergic to one or both of those pain meds. Do not take them. It's probably the Oxy. Lots of people are, including my husband.

From what I've read, walking helps alleviate the gas pain, a product called Gas-X, and warm compresses on the abdomen. Call your Dr about the pain meds ASAP & your allergic reaction to them.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
