Is there minimum BMI for Vsg in Mexico? I currently have a BMI of 41 and my husband and I are going start a high Protein low carb diet along with working out. I know I will drop below 40 once we start this. I can not afford surgery till at least April but need to start my journey to living healthy. I am scared I won't be able to get the surgery if I am under a certain BMI.

My BMI was 32 when I was approved for the VSG, and 31 on the day of surgery. Since you are self-paying you don't have to jump through the hoops insurance sets out to qualify. So long as your BMI classifies as obese (over 30) you should be fine, and even if it's in the significantly overweight range (28-29) you might be a candidate. The VSG was first recommended to me by my endocrinologist who said that other women with PCOS who were my size had benefitted from it, but that I'd likely have to pay for it myself because my BMI didn't meet the insurance qualifications. The surgery has improved my life exponentially!

Good luck!
