TENaciousTENS "roll call" as promised!

Shermy58- So happy for you that everthing went smoothly. I get banded next week. It sounds like the main advice from previous banders is to walk walk walk for the gas pain thing. It sounds like that part is painful, but doesn't last long for most if they get a lot of walking in. I hope it lets up for you soon. And don't forget to keep sipping the Water. How is your pain level otherwise besides the gas? Are the incisions or port hurting?

Well, the surgery is over! I'm so anxious I can't stand it. Right now I'm sore of course, but it's so worth it. I believe the soreness will go away one day at a time. I look forward to reading your comments and having your support all along the way! Best Wishes and God Bless.....~Renee in ky :)

Wow Holly, you've done a great job with this. My surgery date is confirmed for Oct 18th. You had a question mark by it on the last rollcall list because it was tentative but insurance approval came through.:clap2:

Good luck everyone! How exciting is this????

God Bless!

Tina

hi everyone. I am official an oct bandster. My surgery went well. My doctor told me he repaired a large hernia and cleaned up scare tissue from having my gallbladder out 22 years ago. I was up and walking within the first hour after getting a room. I have not had any pain just soreness and a little gas in my left shoulder. I am excited to have my surgery over with. Thanks to everyone for all of the support. Marcy:clap2:

Hello my fellow Tens, I was banded on the 1st, in Acuna, Mexico, By Dr. Jose Rodriquez. Wow! What an experience. It all seemed to (and did) happen so fast. Briefly as I can tell you and still try to add some details. Sunday PM met with rep. in San Antonio (SA) for about an hour - wife and I both nurses so we sped through alot of the medical. Monday the first, 0545, van to Del Rio/Acuna. 0930 Arrive - Paperwork, Lab, CXR (chest X-Ray), and IV start by 1000. Brief visit by Drs. Rodiguez and Calderone for last minute questions etc. 1030 I had been given Valium (it was decided by Dr.R to take Mary first) and almost missed giving my wife a 'Good-luck' kiss and she was taken in to surg. within 30 seconds. The next thing I remember was -- (It's my turn already?) -- it was 1100. Before I had a chance to be nervous I was out like a light. After that, it was about 1300 (1:00PM) and Mary was waking me up for my first walk! A-a-r-GH!!! I had told myself not to be a weenie about it before going in and to just accept the discomfort. And... I did...every two hours for about 8hrs. Then slacked off a bit, during the night, to about every 3-4hrs until we left the next AM about 0930. Folks I hate to say it but, YOU gotta walk. It got easier and easier each time; going from the crumpled-old-man walk to 'mostly' up right in less than 24hrs. Breakfast was hot camamile tea followed by a little box of A.J. The van was/is uncomfortable and the ride back back seemed slow at 70MPH most of the way (one manditory walk at the half-way point x's15mins). Now the good news I now can breathe deep, laugh and burb without discomfort. Minimal discomfort when I drink a little too fast (already LEARNING my band). I think the torso hairs, that I Nair'd off last saturday, are getting the majority of my attention now... E-r-r-r. Weight loss, you ask? Pre-op 340.0, tues 335.8, weds 335.0, thurs 334.4, and today 331.3. Yes, I am eating. Occational hunger on the liquid diet but not too bad. O.K. my daughter just arrived for a visit. Good luck to everybody still waiting to band later this month. Talk with ya'll later. Dylan

P.S.'s I asked the doctor how long it actually took once in OR - Mary approx. 12 mins and me 15 mins (This is from scaple to suture.). Also they rotate/turn you on your right side about 30 degrees from flat, to help keep your liver out of the way. As a consequence, most patients feel gas discomfort in the upper left chest/shoulder area (This took the longest to leave/resolve despite me trying to sleep 30-90 degrees on my left--thinking if the gas has to migrate back(up) across my body it will have to thin out a little and thus - yes, I said thus - dissolve easier.). Crammed alot into that sentence didn't I? Whew!!! Lastly, I always weigh naked, after I pee, in the AM, usually every saturday. Today 10/6 - 330.2 yea-a-a-a!

Dylan- so glad you and your wife came through great and are on the mend. Thanks for giving a little more detailed description. Everyone just says had surgery and having gas pain- they don't really give the details of before, right after, and then once home. Us nervous nellies want more details. ;) I am glad it all goes fast- you said you didn't have a lot of time to be nervous. (Cause I am nervous!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
