Hello fellow Bypassers. This evening before my VFW Auxiliary Meeting I went to our local Rutter's Convenience Store and got the sugar free French vanilla cappachino. Figured it would be a win win for me since I am now on puréed and at that point I was hungry. I dumped for the first time today and it sucked! Hot flashes, red face, emergency running to bathroom diarrhea (sorry tmi!) and I even vomited! Did anyone else experience this with sugar free products before?

I dump with my Protein Shakes if I drink them too fast. It has happened twice...both times was speed of drinking...slowed down, haven't dumped since

Dumping is no fun! Keep in mind that sugar free doesn't necessarily mean carb free. I'm assuming you got the drink from a machine where there was no nutrition label available. This early on try to stick to things that have a nutrition label so that you can monitor the carbs.

Good point! I can not drink milk following this surgery so there may be lactose in it.

I read somewhere to avoid or limit certain sugar substitutes that cause symptoms. One I know is Sorbitol (believe it has "sugar alcohol" even though it is sugar/calorie-free. (If I find the list of others, I'll post them.)

Sorbitol is in the Italian Ices that I love. I was having one after each meal (like dessert). After I read that, I checked the ingredients and sure enough, the ices contain Sorbitol. So I only have one a day and eat it very slowly; so far so good.

But more than one or eating it too quickly, can cause cramps for me.

Good luck and hope you feel better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
