Anybody on here have PCOS?

Recommended Posts

I absolutely hate the limited options that are provided by OB/GYN's! I know they're doing their job and perhaps there's not enough research done for quality treatment regarding PCOS; what birth-control is not going to cut it, what about when I want to have children?

I've heard from several people that getting a gastric bypass will help with the hormonal issues developed from PCOS as well as fertility issues.

What do you guys think?

Btw I'm from Virginia

Unfortunately, I have also been dealing with PCOS for many many years. I had such horrible periods that would last months that finally after five years of constantly testing different medications and going through hundreds of tests, I was told that my only solution was to get a hysterectomy. I went through with the hysterectomy and it helped with the periods but not the PCOS and my weight continued to climb. I spoke with my endocrinologist and he said weight loss surgery would help tremendously. I started the process in June and just got approved this week. When meeting with the surgeon he said that he has treated many women with PCOS and has never had a recurrence of the symptoms after surgery!

I have PCOS. I was diagnosed at 18 in 1990 and my doctor said there was nothing she could do for me, but come back when I wanted to try for kids. When I think about how many years I needlessly suffered with all the symptoms, I don't know whether to scream or cry or both. Finally in my late 30s I researched it myself and marched in with medical opinion papers on treating my symptoms and walked out with the prescriptions I demanded.

More to your question, the times I've lost all my extra weight, my symptoms all but disappeared. I think there is still a chicken and egg question about it - what comes first, the obesity or the PCOS - but weight loss helps a lot.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 8-10 years ago. Met Forman and spironoloactone helped a bit with the excess facial hair but not much with anything else.

Had gbp surgery 1 yr ago and have lost all my excess weight. Other than the facial hair that I already had from past pcos, all the other symptoms are "gone baby gone". What the endocrinologist who diagnosed me said has proven true -- "lose the excess weight and your PCOS will go away".

Don't know if this is true for everyone but it was for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
