Hello, so I've started smoking weed to combat my borderline personality disorder and wanted to know if they test for weed preop...I literally just started and haven't smoked much but I wanted to know the chances of it hindering me getting my sleeve done. I'm still in the process of getting worry thing ready to be sent over to my insurance for approval...no date has been set yet.

@@BubblesOhSoSleeved - No, some test for nicotine. Mostly because tobacco irritates the stomach so much that it can make it hard for your stomach to heal. That said, the edibles and smoking will be out of the question for a while after your surgery. If you live in a state where weed is legal, many safer ways to enjoy (vaping, and liquid). I enjoyed last year in CO trying it out after 30+ years.

@@LittleBill - actually not. One of the odd things that has happened with the medical pot experiment that has been going on in a number of states is they have found many strains which don't give you the munchies. It is really fascinating to see what has happened now that pot has passed from the stoners to big business. In CO, they can tell you where it was grown, who grew it, what the level of THC is and the strain...some make you high, some make you hungry, some make you paranoid/euphoric. It is a very new world. I work with conservative lawmakers there, and the whole new "green" economy is worth looking at. If you are in CO, go see a "bud tender" and they can tell you all about it.

They have conservatives in CO? I know a guy who moved out there from PA so he could be a legal stoner. He was more of a libertarian, tending towards anarchist I think.

@@LittleBill - Yep, whole bunch of libertarian stoners in the state, but remember Focus in the Family is based in CO Springs, Heck, there are a bunch of conservatives and libertarians I work with in PA. We even keep a few liberals (mostly to make fun of)here in Oklahoma. ;-)

You do understand that anesthesia puts you into a deep sleep right? I would talk to the doctor about it, you will at least want to have a good gap in time between smoking and being put under. I would think the fact that it makes you sleepy would be a huge worry for the anesthesiologist who will be putting you to sleep for the surgery.

I do understand, although multiple people have smoked right up until their surgery dates...I'm not a heavy smoker but my mothere said I'd they test me and im.positive they won't go through with the surgery. So that's the reason I wanted to know...I'll put a pause on it until I get clarification from my surgeon

Mine did a drug panel and a nicotine test. I live in CO and am a medical marijuana patient for Migraine headaches. Honestly I would err on the side of safety. I quit for 2 months through my pre-op shenanigans. I wanted this more then I cared about suffering for a couple of days off and on. Heavy smokers can take up to 2 weeks to clear on a blood panel. Light smokers can take as little as 3-4 days. I have read elsewhere that some facilities do urine screens and marijuana takes up to 30 days to clear naturally as it's stored in fat cells. No regrets I was happy to stop for the time being so I wouldn't be spending the days leading up in panic because I didn't just nip it in the bud (hehe )

Edit; my class coordinator mentioned I needed to be off of nicotine and thc for a month before my date

One more reason why I am glad I did mine in Mexico. I have been tobacco free for years, but I vaped in the hospital in Mexico. Nicotine doesn't irritate the stomach. That said, hope you stayed off tobacco. I dated a closet smoker, it took me a week to get that taste out of my mouth. Ick.

@@OKCPirate I quit smoking August first! I actually just picked up vaping about two to three weeks ago. My best friend smokes cigarettes and I am very surprised at how horrible I find the smell now when we are together. I was a very heavy smoker for 7 years until I quit. I never imagined I could be off put by the smell of my oldest crutch. That is one of my things I've vowed to never return to. Added bonus I'm a beast on the treadmill now because my lungs aren't fighting me relentlessly. One of the best things I've done for myself.

I told em i drank the (420) "tea" for documented arthritis issues & i made a BIIIIIG deal abt how proud i was of myself 4 taking the initiative to quit smoking ciggs 6 months b4 consult in anticipation of having this surgery. No problems... I think the main thing they hate is nicotine pre-surgery. They trip on weed smoking bc....well, it just isn't federally legal yet. When it is things (and surgery instructions) will change.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
