mbuczkowski 272 Posted December 6, 2016 I am searching, since I thought I read it before, but is there program requirements pre-op if self pay? I am sure every Dr. Is different. However, I am trying to figure out timing for work. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
mooseprejean 86 Posted December 6, 2016 My doctor only requires everyone to get cleared for surgery first and liquid diet only the day before surgery Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App
OhHeyMarina 285 Posted December 6, 2016 I was self pay and all i had to do was get a psych eval and cardiology and pulmonary clearance, first doctor appointment i went to was in July and my surgery is December 16th what took so long is being able to get an appointment for the other doctors and then having them having to test me and wait for results to get a clearance, i finally got all my clearances done on November 20th and they called me the next day saying they had dates available for December 8th or 16th so i went with the 16th so everything self pay is normally fast just depending on how quick you get clearances
White Sale 339 Posted December 11, 2016 I am also a self-pay patient. I live Florida. I went doctor shopping in October. Because of my age (31), medical history, and the fact that I am self-pay, I didn't need the entire litany of tests required by insurance. My surgeon's requirements for me: blood test EKG chest x-ray no official psych eval, per se, but I was definitely interviewed and questioned by the doctor as to why I wanted the surgery one week of pre-op liquid diet (4 days full, 3 days clear) standard post-op diet Basically the only things I had to wait on were my test results and an open slot for surgery. The surgeon wanted to know that I was physically and mentally healthy for this operation. He could tell that I was completely sincere and had done a vast amount of research on VSG. I think the insurance people have to go through much, much more hassle to get it covered. The blood test took about a week to get results on, EKG was immediate, and chest x-ray took 3 days. I could have had the surgery within three weeks of my first consultation. I chose to wait because I'll be off for the month of December. I'll be having it a couple of days before Christmas. Good luck to you, OP!
triplethreat 257 Posted December 28, 2016 I was self pay. My first appt was mid June. My surgery was July 17. I had bloodwork, chest X Ray, psych eval. Very fast and no problems. I met with my surgeon July 6 and he had an opening on the 17th so I took it. Wishing you the best -- it's been a great change for me! evesta 67 Posted April 8, 2017 I'm self pay and things happened pretty quick for me. My doctor required two visits with a nutritionist and two with a trainer. The first appointments were for how things will be when I'm back to "normal" and the others were for preop, surgery and postop. I already had a sleep study years ago and because I had a psych evaluation for lap band so that was waived. So as soon as I got those done I scheduled with surgery 13 days out on April 17th. I get a physical Tuesday and have my surgeon visit Thursday and I'm ready to roll. So excited:)
