Weight loss during Supervised Diet

Recommended Posts

My surgeon didn't say exactly how much weight I had to lose in the six-month supervised diet stage, but encouraged me to lose as much as I can to help me get to goal more quickly. How much did you lose during that stage?

I lost 99 pounds during my six-month insurance-required diet program (from 397 pounds at my PCP appointment to 298 pounds on the day of surgery).

It was the best thing I ever did, and I am so thankful that my insurance had that requirement!

Good luck!

I followed a low carb/high protein/high healthy fat diet plan during my pre-op diet and I have continued that post-op (even through the food stages). I have eaten less than 20 carbs per day every day since the beginning.

I wanted to lose as much weight as I possibly could pre-op. The doctor had zero expectation of weight loss, and until about month 4, I was just another person that they pushed in and out as fast as they could during those "diet visits." By the fourth visit when I had lost well over 50 pounds, they finally said something about it and spent more than 5 minutes with me.

Part of it was that I wanted to lose half of the weight on my own before the surgery. Part of it was that I wanted to make the most of the six months I had to do diet visits. Part of it was that I was just ready to do something about my weight problem, and I didn't want to wait on the surgery to do it. To me, the surgery is a supporting player in the second part of my weight loss journey, not the star and certainly not the destination.

Good luck!

32 pounds during my 3-month diet. I'm so glad I did. I've got that much less to lose in the honeymoon phase.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
