A lot of hormones are released from your fat cells when you lose weight really fast, and that could be causing the weird periods but to be safe I would call your surgeon or your OBGYN and ask about it. I started birth control (nuvaring) after my surgery and it keeps my periods pretty regular, not sure how they would be if I wasn't on the BC

First of all you are losing at a crazy fast rate, congrats.

Yes, it's very common for periods to be messed up by rapid weight loss. I have heard of people have 2 periods in a month, bleeding non-stop for weeks on end, etc. It isn't anything to worry about but call your gyn just to be sure.

Yeah. I bled for the first two months. I have Mirena, so I hadn't had a period in years, but the hormone dump caused me to bled through in spite of it. I don't even want to know what would have happened without Mirena. The good news is that it evened out after six weeks when my weight loss stabilized.

Hey wgsleeved how is the Nuvaring working for you? I'm starting it this week and I'm a little nervous about using it.

It's been pretty easy, I haven't had any major issues other than a lack of libido, but that is normal in conjunction with the hormones released during weight-loss. But I like it better than the pills. My face has cleared up a lot, so that's a plus!

Always always always consult your OB-GYN! Your body is going through a lot of intense changes that can wreak havok on hormones, but that doesn't mean WLS is the cause! Definitely check with your specialist to ensure everything is in good working order down there. Be careful not to let WLS overshadow other potentially unrelated health issues.

I haven't had a period at all prior to surgery. Ever. I am kinda looking forward to it. I am nervous about having extended ones. I am only post op a week and I am feeling moody and angry at the drop of a hat, it's weird. I am having trouble holding in my feelings!

After having completely normal regular periods my entire life, post-op my periods are ever 2-3 weeks with long periods of random spotting etc.

It is totally normal. All that fat is flooding your body with hormones.

How soon after surgery did you start the nuvaring?

Almost immediately, maybe a week or two, however long it took me to get in to see my OBGYN :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
